Petrol prices have risen to record levels and the UK government has hinted it may postpone a planned 1p fuel duty increase due next month. But how much have driving habits already changed in an effort to save fuel?

Driving around the M25 last Saturday was extremely relaxing - no waiting at the Dartford Crossing, and an easygoing 65mph all the way to our pal's house. Lovely.

What made me laugh about this was the comment about Spain reducing speed limits to reduce fuel consumption. A better idea would be to get rid of the 60kph speed limit every time you pass a side turning on a 2-way road, which means drivers on main roads are constantly doing 100 - 60 - 100 - 60 - 100 and so on.

I continue to drive "like an old woman". I can't say I've noticed any difference in other drivers' behaviour. As soon as the weather improves (and it's certainly taking its time) I'll be back on my bike.

Always interesting to see the ingenious ways in which people try to save money! Good to see people using less fuel from an environmental point of view. It will also be interesting to see if it will reduce profits of the oil companies who always seem to make record profits no matter what the circumstances.

We never exceed 60mph and generally cruise on motorways at 50-55mph.
We only use the motorway to visit our son about 3 times a year.
On country roads our speed is always fairly low - it needs to be when there's only room for one vehicle!

I have not gone over 130MPH this past month. I almost did, but then had to shut the throttle for a 30MPH zone through the village.

If you ever find yourself in West Wales, and come up behind a van doing 40-45, I really can't be arsed to press the accelerator any further, so you'll have to be patient. Or die in a head on collision .

Not to worry my 40-80mph time is only a couple of seconds, I'll pass your van like you're going in reverse :P

Does it corner well? There are some nice bends, rocky cuttings and steep drops into rivers .

On your head it will be, Haggis, like most motor cycle fatalities, not that I hope that ever happens to you or anyone else.

If he rides round the blind bend next to my place, he might meet me pulling out of the drive with my trailer. Speed limits are there for a reason!
