Grrr. Shannon and Cork look set to be in business.

Add my vote. While you're at it, make every day a Sunday.

It's much more natural and acceptable.

Moving on, I somehow wonder why I haven't noticed the sudden loss of aircraft. I might be cynical and say I doubt that it's because not much comes to or from Teesside Airport* anymore...
*They're calling it 'Durham Tees Valley Airport' now, I know, but to me and to a fair few local residents I think, that is a silly name (it's nowhere near Durham City, nor is it located in any part of modern County Durham- and that confuses people). If they were going to rename it, maybe something like Darlington-Stockton Airport would have been better...

So tons of volcanic ash have much less effect on incoming solar radiation than a few tiddly vapour trails from aircraft?
Oh yes. This is the first time I've seen a really clear blue sky for years. Vapour trails have a significant effect.
Interestingly, one effect of vapour trails was being talked about in the local pub just a few weeks ago by a couple of retired air traffic control clerks. The essence was that, for a pleasant change, Ireland was experiencing quite dry weather, which meant vapour trails were staying sharp but disappearing quickly.

Iceland is reporting that the volcano is settling down, and is not currently adding more ash to high altitudes. Typically this type of volcano starts explosively then rumbles on for months at lower levels.
The weather and winds should disperse the current dust cloud in a few days, maybe a week.
doesn't look like this one will be a black swan event for aviation. Maybe next time....
At Tesco, Thai orchids are likely to be the first item to vanish from stores if the disruption continues.

I've just walked back from the shop in the village down the road. A helicopter landed in a field close to the houses, dropped off a passenger and flew off
The following is the view from my garden today. No con-trails, just one very small fluffy white cloud. I thought it needed recording, a precursor of the post aviation era.
