Yesterday going on the eia site (U.S. agency) was a bit surprised by the use of below banner : http://iiscn.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/ukoil2.jpg http://www.eia.gov/ (second one in current rolling list) Which of course is true, but a bit a "play on words" to me ... (wonder how many Americ...

Personnally I like sushil quite a bit, a kind of new Guy Debord ( Society of the Spectacle ), who also wrote in 1971 in "la planète malade" (the sick planet) : "The era that has all the technical means to taint the absolute living conditions all over the Earth is also the era that, by...

Interesting Alain - particularly in view of the fact that Reagan and the Shah were great buddies and the Shah claimed credit for getting the price of a barrel of oil up. He was a dupe and Reagan was a dybbuk. In the doc mentioned above Yamani also tells the story of the king of Saudi Arabia asking ...

About the oil industry history, there is a really great documentary "la face cachée du pétrole" but which undortunately only exists in French and German to my knowledge (in two parts, adapted from the book by the same title from Eric Laurent, starting from the very beginning of the oil era...

An opinion poll is also a fact in itself, though.

No it's because the population size of a given country in this case is irrelevant. No I think it's quite relevant, it's what makes possible for instance for the federal budget of Mexico to still be 40% or something based on oil royalties, or the petrol price to be the lowest in Venezuela, or for Sa...

Per capita figures for a country is the nominal figure divided by the number of inhabitants. It allows to compare countries of very different sizes for a given variable. You didn't know ? But I guess people here don't like the pic because it comes from the Russkies. (and makes the US very small) lol...

What Ralph and Candy said. What is the point in using it at all? What does it achieve? I have about €700. I have way less than my fair share. So for instance talking about population density for a country doesn't make any sense either ? And GDP per capita the same ? I mean, it is just data visualiz...

I have been to Gabon. Over 99% of the population has a LOT less than $200,000, almost certainly less than £200, and always will. Not sure why you interpret it this way, it is just a representation of a variable in a "per capita" way, that is all. And for instance knowing that Koweit or Qa...

Yes true that all this can be said, but still, you can look at it as reflecting published reserves numbers.
