The end of the begining of the end
I've been massively confident that life as we know would end at sometime during 2012 but now I'm begining to feel that date was quite optamistic. The way things are going now the whole could burst before summer time. I've decided when the riots kick off over here in blighty that I won't bother joini...

Re: The benefits system
Giving people enough to keep them alive seems sensible if it can be afforded. But should the state ask for community work to be done in return? Could this be a source of cheap labour which can be used to replace mechanised processes, for example in agriculture? If there's work to be done it should ...

A vegetarian did once tell me that if we all became vegetarians there would be enough food to feed the World 6 times over. I'm not sure how accurate or inaccurate that statement was but I doubt the Governments would be keen on that regime has they find it more difficult to keep societies under their...

I used to but I've lost interest now, mainly because I find most people either don't believe there's such a thing, don't care or ask 'What Oil in the Peak district?' amongst other things. So now I'm just ito watching and waiting and living as much as possible untill the worst happens - although I re...

Loads of people know about it .. and other global threats. They simply don't have time or resources to deal with it ... real life gets in the way. I agree with this. I know about but resources and funds mean I can do Jack s**t about it. So instead of trying to prepare I'm enjoying what is remaining...

Re: The long view,...
Only thing that still gets me is RGR's signature  Oil never reached Peak Oil in those years claimed, but I posted about that ages ago :D It certainly was peak oil, for years and years sometimes, after those peaks. And the world didn't end then either. No it wasn't 'true' Peak Oil, it was j...

Re: The long view,...
I once read 'the art of the long view' written by a planner who worked at shell. The US government asked him to look at what could happen to america, he predicted ' local armies, built on a black economy', when they read his report they cancelled his funding claiming he was deranged.. this in 1975....

$20 Barrel of Oil - when?
Well I have to say it's looking more likely than a $100 barrel now over the next few months. If so will this be enough to help repair the economy or won't it make much difference?

One thing I did find interesting on this trip was the importance of 'Hoover Dam'. It may just have helped more with the US Economy boom throughout the 20th century than Oil. I doubt it. Its big, but it isn't as big as oil. Yes but without it Nevada, Arizona and some other places wouldn't have ever ...
