yes the panic buying is a bit on the annoying side. it's a self fulfilling prophecy, people all rush out at once cause they assume there's going to be a shortage and hey presto, shortage. It is interesting though, hardly any bread in the shop down the road but loads of flour and yeast still... takes...

I saw something about this the other week on Country File on the BBC. It looks as if the mainstream media is now reversing it's 'GM is evil' stance on things with the 'looming food shortages'. What really got my goat though was that the issue of GM seems to have been polarised into the two arguments...

I wrote to mine and got a reply back within a week which pretty much echoed previous statements on the matter issued by central government about it - basically the response that Monbiot has quoted many times in the guardian. Quite disappointing because I specifically went into a lot of detail about ...

The most painful thing, for me, is finding myself daydreaming about the kinds of plans and ambitions I used to have for the future, and suddenly remembering they're unfeasible. I think this is part of the problem with the way society has become: we're encouraged to concentrate on our ambitions and ...

Yes, that's true, as you say, it applies to all green choices (transport, packaging etc). I guess some people want to be seen to be "doing their bit" - that expression is almost as annoying as "save the planet" - but don't want to make any changes to their living arrangements. M...

Our role as energy consumers is to reduce our usage. It's the generators' role, aided by government, to move to renewables. I've not had any problems with Ecotricity at all to be fair to them so will be switching back across to them again in the new place. But yes, I couldn't agree more.... I know ...

a friend of mine was told that the average consumption of a normal small household was about 8.5 kwh a day. If this figure includes heating I'd be astonished if it were really that low. Considering that a small household will use anything from 8 kW just for heating alone during winter, that would i...

fair play to all those who used the hour for various shindigs and other social carry-ons. you're dead on. organising something like that is a much better way of raising awareness than just sitting in the cold and dark for an hour. having looked into it all a bit more i feel i kind of missed the poin...
