Where is our connection with nature? Our one-ness with the planet? Our respect for the great Earth Mother? We've lost 'the way'. The one true way that cannot be named. We need to meditate, re-connect. Surrender ourselves to the ways of nature and stop trying to inflict our domination over something...

(Just thought - is Bartlett the "yeast-in-a-bottle" man? There's no link here to his work. ) Yes. http://globalpublicmedia.com/lectures/461 Thanks RGR and Sally for responses. Bartletts analysis tends to be that exponential increases in consumption eat up ANY reserves/resources in a much ...

The 25% increase in electrical generation to power the cars of the future doesn't sound like much to me...given the lifespan of existing known fossil fuels, we've even got plenty of time to grow electrical generation that much. Hi RGR. Just wondering if you've seen Al Bartlett's "Arithmetic, P...

If you're one of those lucky folks who own woodland (or an orchard), you might find this interesting: http://www.cooltemperate.co.uk/own_root.shtml - particularly the "Coppice Orchard" idea half way down the page.

I wish I could treat my tax bills or my mortgage in that way.
Given the way we measure inflation you could treat the contents of your wallet in that way :)

At the moment no one knows if a US slowdown will matter, if China, India et al can take up the slack. Really? It seems highly unlikely to me that a US slowdown wouldn't reduce global demand. The US is so elephantine, consuming either directly or indirectly through imported products, approaching 50%...

I'm afraid I'm ushering at the wedding of a close friend on Friday so the likelihood of me getting up and feeling in the mood for jumping on a train to Manchester and settling in for an all day session seems a little remote...

Have fun though!

Yeah, I agree with Tattercoats - get your name down now. The rest all sounds good.

I'd add one recommendation - do a permaculture design course - it'll set you back maybe 180 quid but will give you invaluable ideas & inspiration.

I helped write the report and concede that it's ambitious, but I think that if the reality turns out to be even half way between the scenario in the report and BAU/collapse, then it'll have been worth doing, no? We're hoping to build on the report and develop the project into an ongoing think tank/r...

Has anyone else been on one of these courses? What do you think? I'm part way through a permaculture design course in Leeds - it's the usual 2 week course, but delivered as one weekend a month for seven months. I'm really enjoying it - it's challenged some of my preconceptions about life and has ce...

I am still prevaricating on this. :? I have investigated SIPPs and was told that there are annual fees that make them a bit more costly than for instance a normal stakeholder pension - but this will be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike when the markets crash...... As for government bonds / gil...

But, but... Impressions alone wont make hay grow? Hay needed to feed the cows during winter. They lasted there for about 400 years. Longer than the USA have existed. Then they died. Did they die because they suddenly realized that hay did not grow on Greenland? After 400 years of delusions? Feeding...
