Don't they usually have great big cattle trucks that only go to the station when full? I thought that it was the case that because it was holiday season many officers were on holiday AND the numbers of people out in the streets was pretty high and they were pretty mobile. Interestingly I haven't see...

Well the conspiracy theory I heard was about the apparent police stand down. Why didn't they start arresting people immediately? Doing nothing clearly brought out loads more people on to the streets and kept the riot going for much longer. Well the reason is because a huge great spectacle like that ...

See: http://www.the2012story.com/ OK watched the vid and found it totally unconvincing I'm afraid to say. "Corruptions creep in at the end of a cycle." But there are smaller cycles. What has happened at the end of those? Anything so significant that it can't happen at some other time too?...

It is unfortunate though, that when the dicontented where given voice the selection provided by the media consisted of 'nutters' and the educationally sub-normal. This skews the public perception of 'discontented youth'. Well certainly those affected are doubtless under-educated. But there have cer...

You aren't seeing the bigger picture, which is that perpetually increasing population, debt and resource use must lead ultimately to a huge economic and resource crash. Yes but we see the bigger picture not from looking at the stars but by studying the things like resource depletion. The Mayan's ma...

Love his poetic and cynical writing style, Kunstler seems to be out on his own that respect.

Re: Civil War by any other name? Youth Versus...

Are we seeing a true uprising? Discontented Youth... Discuss? Absolutely. Of course the mainstream media have gone overboard into trying to provide a false narrative to what has happened. There has been a virtual media blackout on what the rioters and their supporters actually think (though no shor...

It seems a good way for the West to get what they want is to let Gadaffi completely crush the rebellion then, when he's more or less done, invade the country using the moral outrage against him as a justification. Then, with both sides of the political divide largely eliminated, they'll be perfectly...

Thought this was an interesting way to look at it: Some of the loudest voices are calling on the chancellor to scrap the planned fuel duty increase, due in April. But that essentially means using tax-payers' money to fix a problem that we cannot control – the long-term upward trend in oil prices. Ov...

Yeah I agree mostly and one could say animals are consumers too. But I suppose 'consumer' has two meanings one of which is related to economics and perhaps more specifically to capitalist or growth economies (related to consumerism). In the this second sense I could see 'green consumers' as an oxymo...

Glad people enjoyed it. I was actually very disappointed by it as it didn't really go any where towards answering the title question: Is the West History? I'll have to watch the Jared Diamond documentary of his book "Guns, Germs and Steel" some time. I imagine that's a bit deeper and more ...

sure prono? No I'm that not sure of anything really. I see things could go one of two ways. That is a) revolution in Saudi Arabia or b) not. If the day of rage kicks things into a protracted struggle AND crucially this does have a major impact on oil production then I think that would certa...

Is the West History?

I've no idea but that's the title of a documentary on Channel 4 tonight at 8pm (and an hour later on +1).

Might be interesting.

Are you sure? The price is higher than 2008 and there hasn't been much inflation since then.

Also why are prices higher now than 2008 when the price per barrel is still much lower?
