Re: Threat to electricity supply, Jersey.

I would have thought that the Channel Islands are ideally placed for wind turbines with all that wind funnelling up the Channel. A few extra turbines and they could offer Green electricity to France in case Flamanville doesn't come on line.

Re: Housecoal banned

Sounds like there has been plenty of lobbying by the supply industry. I wonder how many MPs have had a delivery of coal or, more probably, something equivalent?

How bad are things getting in Europe?

This article about an EU commissioner saying that the older generation will have to have less in order to "save" the younger generation smacks of a deflection policy to me. The Commission are trying to deflect criticism of their very rich friends away from those friends onto the older gen...

Re: Large electrical blow up in London, April 2015 news

There is a generator farm just to the north of Thatcham railway station in Berkshire, just down the road from me. I haven't seen it running recently although I haven't really looked but I have seen it running quite often in the past. We had a generator at our local substation recently but I'm not su...

I could see these floating islands being used as a tax haven but I think they will be too expensive for most people who will be too poor to afford them.
The poor will be living in the servant's quarters. Some of them anyway.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I read somewhere that Barclays is already having to repatriate call centre jobs from India because of covid. Mind you they will soon have a lot less customers to deal with due to their drastic cutting of credit card limits due to covid. Customers will be flying out of the door!

Re: Floating Cities....

Great minds think alike!!!

This idea won't actually save the beauty that is the Maldives but it might just leave a home for the population, if they can afford it, and if it can stand the new, more extreme weather that comes with global warming!!

Perhaps they will live off fish and seaweed? Sounds like another moneymaking bolt hole for the ultra rich to me. Mind you each super house might have servants quarters as well.

Are you questioning the output of Indian industry? Shame on you! Are you a racist or something? ;-)

Fracking: The End Is Nigh

According to this article anyway. Apparently even the company bosses are trying to get their money and themselves out without rocking the boat too much and collapsing the share prices. The banks are on the same game as well. Hopefully it won't end in a taxpayer bale out and the reverberations runnin...

Re: Looks like a potentially severe drought coming

Our plum blossom looks to have been frosted and we haven't had many bees flying most of the time that the rest of the blossom has been in flower because of the cold. So I'll have to wait for a while to see what comes of the early blossom. Our apple blossom is only just appearing so I hope that that ...

Re: Looks like a potentially severe drought coming

I had my tanks topped up before the "drought" so we've got plenty of water for the moment. We've also got the grandchildren's swimming/paddling pool ( about 6cu m)to empty of last years water which has gone quite green by now. That's going onto the potato beds which we have just mulched wi...
