Re: Labour Party Watch

................ In the meantime, BAU and the inexorable move towards the break-up of the UK continues.... The main SNP condition on joining a coalition would be an immediate referendum on leaving and if they won that referendum the coalition would lose a good proportion of its support leading to a...

Re: Labour Party Watch

Could it have been some tactical voting by Labour supporters? Labour and the LibDems have been asking their voters to do this for some time. I do appreciate that there were probably a lot of stay at homes among Labour voters but could it be a case of "couldn't be bothered"? The Green Party...

Re: Carbon Nanotubes

My thoughts are that this might work quite happily on a small scale for a mobile phone or similar but if you tried uprating it to power say a house or something bigger there would probably be a problem with high electrical currents or static charge build ups in the local environment. You don't get s...

Re: Reports of incident at Chinese reactor

A problem like this makes you wonder what corners were cut for the Chinese to have built this "on time and budget"? It also calls into question the political system which allows for problems to be hushed up as long as the political aim is met. This also brings to mind the troubles that the...

Re: Labour Party Watch

It was only a 52% turn out so a lot of Tories must have stayed at home as well. In a place like Amersham the alternative to the Tories was always going to be the so called Centre Party, the LibDems.

Re: Samsung Heavy partners with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to develop nuclear-powered ships

It looks like Russia/USSR have had more nuclear accidents than the rest of the world put together and they are building even more vessels to have accidents with. If they were a car driver going for an insurance renewal no insurance company would touch them.

Re: Extinction Rebellion, ongoing disscussion.

The turbine is definitely 12V as I had to chose when ordering it and they rewired it from 24V. With a 24V battery system set up as two 12V banks connected in series can you take a connection from the 0v, the negative, and from the 12V + to an inverter and then take a connection from the 12V - to the...

Re: Generator fault.

................BTW, I recal a demonstration years ago. A large diesel engine was running on load at a constant speed and generating electricity. A SMALL percentage of natural gas was introduced into the combustion air and the engined continued to run as normal, but the engine governor was observed...

Re: Generator fault.

We recently got the genny back at a cost of just under £900 after it had a complete rebuild: new bores, pistons, rings etc. We are now having problems with it rattling itself to pieces. Various bits of peripheral brackets have failed, some twice even after we have bolted the machine down using new b...

Re: Extinction Rebellion, ongoing disscussion.

I have had a 300W 12V wind turbine sitting in the cellar for years because I can't work out how to get the power from the turbine to the battery store, a distance of about 30m including down the pole, affordably. The only way that I thought it could go is suspended along poles in the air but that ca...

Re: Swiss voters reject key climate change measures

................. I suspect that in years to come, that total global fossil fuel extraction and use will remain at levels broadly similar to todays, but that most nations will announce that they have reduced THEIR emissions by various forms of trading and offsetting. And the temperature will contin...

Re: Solar power from Australia to Singapore.

The article that I saw, https://ideas.ted.com/solar-farm-sahara-desert-climate-impact-effects/, on changing the climate related to the Sahara and was based on the fact that the solar panels are much darker than sand or rock and vast areas of darker material would produce much more heat and would be ...

Re: Swiss voters reject key climate change measures

If the government started giving away goodies, such as "no cost" insulation of houses, they could get a lot more people onside. When people see Housing Association houses being improved and the comfort levels improving vastly at no extra cost, although some of the savings could be taken ba...

Re: Solar power from Australia to Singapore.

I saw an article, in the Guardian i think, about how large scale solar farms in desert areas could change climate over large areas due to the difference in temperatures and humidity caused by the difference in absorption and radiation between solar panels and desert sand. It's all a matter of degree...
