Re: Brexit Watch

They will be nuclear armed, otherwise what's the point of them? They can stay underwater for 5-6 months if needed and your enemy hasn't a clue where they are. ,...................... The point of them is that the enemy doesn't know where they are and that they can attack the Chinese surface fleet o...

Re: Inflation watch

Mind you, many wages are going up more than that and a few people have had substantial lump sum retention bonuses.

Re: Coming shortage of UK generating capacity?

I suspect that there are a lot of people in Ireland out looking for some dried peat and another bunch digging up new peat supplies. My log supply is in a good position even if it is twenty odd tonnes of old pine. I do have some hardwood to mix in as well and I've got a few trees to plank which will ...

Re: Greer absolutely nails it....

So you think that we will last to the end of the century, do you? With the degree of complexity of the world economic system once it goes below a certain level of function it is likely to break completely. So we are on a roller coaster ride down till the rails stop on one of the dips and we fall ove...

Re: Brexit Watch

.................Well, they are getting a fleet of nuclear powered, and they will be nuclear armed subs capable of taking out 50% of China's population at the push of a button. A major shot across the bows has been fired. ............ According to the BBC News Channel last night they are nuclear po...

Re: Coming shortage of UK generating capacity?

Tonight, nuclear power is very low at under 4 .......... So much for Mr Reliable Nuclear as it is sold to us. All political decisions in this country are usually made on a strictly economic basis so what might seem logical to the man in the street probably isn't the way a politician decides. Interc...

Re: Stock up on heating fuel.

I have built a couple of rocket stoves and could have a clay built pot boiler up and running in a few days allowing for drying time. We do, however, have a log burning cooker in the kitchen.

Hopefully it will come before it's needed!

Although a forest garden isn't usually a wild source of food even if it does look that way.

Re: Food industry boss warns of "permanent shortages"

Maybe we are seeing some sort of collapse, but not the one we think, maybe we are seeing a collapse in the 10 food giants that rule the western world. They will have access to lobbyists, bleaty journalists will will print any old press release as a news story, and the broadcast media who love a bit...

Re: Brexit Watch

We should consider building another interconnector to France if we ever have enough wind power to export to them through it and all the others. I wouldn't trust the French over much at all; they're still trying to avenge Napoleon's honour and the fact that we had to rescue them from the Germans last...

Re: Gas supply crunch

Insulate Britain are blocking roads today to try to get the government to do something sensible instead of relying on more of everything to keep the country warm. How can they possibly fail?

Re: Food industry boss warns of "permanent shortages"

Is this a sign of the start of the breakdown of the economic system? This is not just a British problem, I've read, but is also happening across Europe. To get over this there would have to be an increase in warehouse capacity, with a concomitant increase in cost, and that warehouse capacity would h...

Re: 996 working in China

China don't yet have the ability to project power across the world like the US does. They can bully their neighbours in the South China Sea, on their own doorstep, but they couldn't launch an attack on somewhere like Kuwait as the US did. Neither does Russia. Russia couldn't even control their immed...
