Have been lurking here since forever, so decided to chuck my two pence in. As a woman I dread not having electricity. Women in the past needed to stay at home to complete all the chores that are done by machines today. Canning, spinning, weaving, washing, rug beating, all manner of household stuff. ...

Most normal births require no intervention, however most obs prefer the first birth to be in hospital to establish an obstetric history. I'm not sure why an obstetric history is required for a natural, healthy process. It is like saying that a mentally healthy person needs a psychiatric history. Li...

Congratulations on the expected parenthood. Hospital births have come a long way and most midwives will offer a personal care plan to take into account your preferences. You mean like it isn't already - 2-3 shootings a week . Everyone and his dog carrying a knife, hoodie gangs on every other street corner, what's to change? I just educate my kids in street smarts and hope they do O.K. My daughter has a friend from a lovely rural area, recently they went into town sh...

I'm quite glad there aren't many survivalists on here, they scare me a bit, inasmuch as I'm not so sure I'd be very comfortable with such a pessimistic view. I think I would just bury my head in the sand and forget it all if I thought there was no hope for any quality if life.

Not far from you actually, North Manchester. Thanks for the welcome. Must say I admire what you've done with your place re sustainablity. A shining example it can be done in any setting. Due to illness I am not able to do too much prep work but I am trying to do what I can. A good mindset and keepin...

Getting my kids(teens) to put a cardigan or jumper on is quite difficult, they seem to think that the house should warm enough to walk round in bare feet and underwear in December! I grew up in a one room heated house with coal fire- ice on the inside of the bedroom windows , no hot water etc so it ...

First post,so please be patient with me, have been peak oil aware for about 4 years. In answer to the question, yes I am happy. There are many things I am discontented about , destruction of rain forests, political correctness ..long list, but there is little I can do to influence these things. Over...
