The thing that really frightens me, is that this book was written in the 50's and so must have been pretty scarey then, but look how agressive and mean people are these days in comparison with the 1950's . I used to work on the trams in Nottm until recently and what can I say.....I discovered that t...

War on Iran?

IRAN-MONGERS

?The push by the UK, France and Germany to refer Iran to the UN Security Council, while rooted in the language of diplomacy, is really nothing less than an act of war.? - Scott Ritter; former Chief UN Weapons-inspector in Iraq.

hi. Why not read "The Seed Saver's Handbook"? I borrowed it from my local library and found it really useful, with info from how long different kinds of seeds stay viable, to harvesting and storage techniques. It also gives basic information on breeding your own varieties of plants, so you...

Sorry if this is too obvious, but A good way to save energy on your kettle, is to boil a kettel full of water, make your morning tea, and put the remaining hot water in a vacuum flask for later use. I've been doing this for a while, and I usually only boil the kettle once a day.

Robber barons

When a complete collapse occurs, I think that the ruling, upper-class/boss-class will try to keep control, with the armed forces and former police working for them. On the other hand, with no economy, what could the ruling-class offer them? They'd be able to just take whatever they wanted. The monar...

Useful to know, but...

How will we make jam when things get really tough and sugar is scarce? For eg, can honey be used instead of sugar? Can bottled fruit (without sugar) last as long as jam?

A 'wee' idea....

I use P ersonally I nstigated S oil S timulant (as Bob Flowerdew calls it) on my plants, whenever possible (which is not often, since my allotment is 2 miles away). Obviously, it reduces the amount of water you need to transport, but it is also a good source of nitrogen for plants. When I was a kid,...
