Just finished reading 'Blood and oil' by Klare, and it seems to have been this way for decades, it's only in recent years it seems to have come to public attention via Iraq. If anything, the US will probably end up sending more troops to the middle east region, and anywhere else there's plenty of oi...

Apologise to the hot water!

A friend of mine has been with his Philipino wife for about 2 years now, and it's amazing how different the attitudes are. When he wastes hot water, she says he should apologise to the hot water for wasting it! She's quite happy slaughtering and skinning her own livestock too. I think they'll do fin...

It's that word again 'believe'. As the link below says, I do not believe anything. I would respond with, 'How open-minded are you?' :D

Science could easily be classed as a dogmatic religion No, no, No, NO! It has nothing to do with religion - no faith is required. I think this is the most interesting, a most misunderstood aspect of religion. If your definition of a religion is a system of beliefs which requires blind faith, then B...

Excellent film. I was aware of parts, but not all the details. I find that religions tend to fall into 2 categories: Dogmatic and Mystery. Science could easily be classed as a dogmatic religion - witness the over-reliance on drugs to treat depression, and the pushing out of alternative therapies suc...

Many thanks for everyone who's contributed, it's given me plenty to go at. If I'm not more active it's because I'm more of a lurker than a poster.

Take it easy!

What would you say to 100 business folks?

I've been asked to speak to a group of 100 businessmen and women about going carbon neutral. Any thoughts? I'm also booking an appointment to go talk to my MP about ff depletion. He says he's already seen crude awakening, and would be happy to talk about the issue. Is it me or is the world waking up?

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. It's one of the few portable stores of wealth which the government cannot control. The more governments mess up, and destroy the financial system and their currencies, the more gold gains... Inflation is basically a tax on cash. It's one of the simplest for governmen...

How long have you got? :D - feeding and protecting my family - crime and violence raging out of control (I live in Nottingham) - losing my house and/ or my job (I'm in IT) - raising my son in an era of outright crisis I've made what preparations I can, and am probably better positioned than most, bu...

Interesting about the 5K limit. And the CGT. I wasn't aware of these at all. I read somewhere that there were gold seizures by the US government in the 30's and that could happen in the UK of course. But then if the government did come knocking, you could just tell them you sold it and spent the mon...

I'm afraid it matters quite a bit which currency is used to buy oil, and other commodities for that matter. The only point in holding currency in the first place is so you can spend it! If you have a country that buys alot of oil, then you would need to hold alot more dollars than you would normally...

If you want to buy gold, then simply phone up some local jewelers and get quotes for sovereigns, then simply toddle along and buy them. As for storage, you can keep them in a secure envelope at the bank for around ?10 per year. I've been saying for folks to buy gold for ages, I started at $443 (abou...
