Re: Labour Party/government Watch
Don't forget that a farm is a highly illiquid asset; difficult to sell quickly unless you want to sell quickly to a low bidder who is likely to be an institutional investor. Who would you rather own these farms? A family or some institutional investor such as Blackrock? Farmland being sold off chea...

Re: Labour Party/government Watch
I’d not heard about this either and while I’m no fan of Trump I don’t feel it’s the right thing to do .

Re: Israel/palestine conflict, worsens.
Meaning that one person will view "facts" as different to another person. History is open to interpretation and people often come to different conclusions. Of course anyone can understand resistance to occupation and theft. The issue of who has stolen what is another question. When did the...

Re: Israel/palestine conflict, worsens.
How does anyone come to any conclusion ? How does one person decide socialism is a good form of government while another rejects that idea ? Some I have spoken to have seen opposition to Israel since day one and the intransigence ever since. The Arab league started an openly genocidial war against I...

Re: Israel/palestine conflict, worsens.
This is genocide. Why are so few people willing to say it? Let me just say I don't move in very wide or influential circles but from what experience I have the simple answer to that question would be that many people simply don't care that much. There seems to be a feeling that to a degree the Pale...

Re: How to pull up fence posts .. and remove U staples?
It's a pity there's not an easy way to take out posts that have been concreted in awkward places. I've just had to change three rotten posts that had been put in with frankly too much concrete. It was a labourious job with a lump hammer and long chisels. I really don't know why people use the stuff ...

Re: Suez Watch
. Most herbal teas are to my taste either bland or just plain awful but the rosebay willow herb makes the most convincing tea plus it's common and easy to process. And if that minimum amount of work is too much it's also available for sale on ebay.

Re: Suez Watch
For no other reason than reducing the trade deficit I would encourage less tea consumption. One weed we seem to grow in profusion is rosebay willow herb. It can be further processed ( look for Ivan tea on youtube for instance) but just simply dried , crushed and steeped in boiling water creates a d...

Re: Fuel Storage for stoves, lights, vehicles, and other uses.
How long does petrol last, in the fuel tank of an old Jag? If the car's aren't on the road, the idea of filling and emptying every few months 'just in case' seems way to much effort. Better to buy diesel vehicles! Diesel fuel might indeed have been a batter choice, the petrol was removed by a hand ...

Re: Fuel Storage for stoves, lights, vehicles, and other uses.
IN THEORY, one may apply for a licence to store up to 275 liters of petrol,in practice it almost impossible to comply with the requirements . There ARE strict rules regarding distances from other buildings and from water courses, rules with which most premises can not comply. I would keep to to the...

Re:
Does anyone know what the UP TO DATE law is on domestic storage of petrol. My understanding is that the law (or perhaps secondary rules made under the law) has recently changed. AFAIK, the present rule is no more than 30 (thirty) litres may stored in purpose made containers of metal or plastic. Thi...

Re: Fuel Storage for stoves, lights, vehicles, and other uses.
I use Aspen 2 in my chainsaw (550XP Mk2) but I use so little, no more than 10L a year, I'm not too fussed about the cost difference. The long shelf life and cleaner burning is more than worth it. There's a certain irony that a product aimed more at professional use is actually better suited to occa...

Re: Fuel Storage for stoves, lights, vehicles, and other uses.
I started rotating my diesel stocks last week using stored stuff and refilling the cans. I use petrol in my tools and tend to buy as much as is allowed in the autumn to use next year as a bit of a hedge against inflation as much as anything else. I have tried the Aspen fuel specifically the ready mi...

With regards to the aid Austria stopping aid payments got the briefest mention on the radio 4 news and I haven't seen it discussed in other news outlets although I could just have missed it.. https://www.reuters.com/world/austria-says-it-is-suspending-aid-palestinians-after-hamas-attack-2023-10-09/ ...

Re: In the UK is prepping a guaranteed waste of time?
It seems plain sense to me to be a bit prepared plain or common sense is largely the way I've viewed what is now called prepping. Hardly a new idea to me at least , more something I inherited from my parents. They kept a full pantry , stocks of linen , toilet rolls and numerous other items. There w...
