World has enough oil reserves, says BP boss - Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/jun/11/commodities.bp BP head angling for rights to drill in ANWAR, and making a hash of refuting peak oil. This journalist also has no real idea how it is production that matters, not 'running out'. "The world is not running out of oil and can continue t...

This is all very useful stuff guys, my thanks and please don't stop. In fact you have inspired me to make it rather more about PO, maybe starting: Alan Greenspan tells us that he is ?saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil.? ...

I'm sure I could mention it in fact but not at length. I should have explained better - he doesn't want it to turn into a peak oil piece, and it is really about the repercussions of exploitation.

Any thoughts as to my questions Snow Hope?

Its a chance to make some important points about the oil problem and the repercussions of our neo-colonial adventures, even if it is in a lifestyle magazine. I'm writing freelance - I have an ok paid job outside of journalism, this is some fun and pocket money. I also find getting my thoughts on pap...

Help with writing oil-themed magazine article

Hi all, Its been a while since I logged in here, to be truthful I let thinking about Peak Oil take over things a bit too much, but after my 'peak-break' I hope to get into back reading and contributing. I am writing an article for a magazine aimed at City types, (a kind of high-brow lifestyle mag), ...

I'm not sure if I would go along with your two references: Orwell came from an earlier generation so I'm not sure if his world is our world. Chomsky seems to make a living by being "controversial" and "alternative" and "caring". To discount Orwell because he wrote 50 y...

Orwell and Chomsky focus on ELITE institutions because many elite institutions claim to represent a larger constituency than that of their members, and because elite institutions shape public understanding. Newspapers claim they act as guardians of democracy, hounding politicians and corporations fo...

What a distraction this conspiracy theory is. It may well be true, but what we do know is that the neocons capitalised on 9/11 to pursue a neo-imperialist agenda, as set out in their "Project for the New American Century" website. This should be the focus for opposition. What is more likel...

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't want to be a city lawyer forever, there are more interesting areas of the law (energy and environmental law being just two) to go in to once I have paid off my faustian pact. Certainly having no debt or dependents helps quite a bit. Keeping up practical skills is ...

Italian oil industry insider refutes peak oil

In the National Geographic "Maugeri is the author of The Age of Oil: The Mythology, History, and Future of the World's Most Controversial Resource. As a senior vice president at the Italian oil corporation Eni SpA, he's also an oil-industry insider." http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news...

My vested interest is that I think many people will be happier in a post PO paradigm, including myself. Constantly striving to mindlessly consume whilst ignoring the important things in life like family, creativity, and connection to the natural world is making the world an unhappy place. Of course ...

Dare I move this back to the original topic? I'm 26 and not quite sure whether my current path is PO sensible. Whilst I have no debt and no dependents, being a young 'un I'll have to try and survive a bit longer in a post peak world. I have politics BSc/MA, mixed work experience, but for the past fe...

yes 1984? Interesting that you should like 1984 isenhand. Here is a section from Part 2, Chapter 5: "In some ways she was far more acute than Winston, and far less susceptible to Party propaganda. Once when he happened in some connection to mention the war against Eurasia, she startled him by ...
