Re: "Blue Sky Thinking" about Heathrow

The only reason Labour was allowed to win the election, was because the media barons were confident that they would not rock the boat when it came to maintaining the economic status quo, ie, ever increasing inequality between the rich and everyone else.

Re: Even the pretence we can stop climate change is now being abandoned

We are seeing the acceleration of the effects of the limits to growth, right at the point of where the original study said they would occur. It was always going to be a tragedy foretold, the inevitable effect of exponential growth where there was a delay between the benefits of exploiting resources ...

Re: Ukraine Watch...

For the first time there is video of a Russian towed artillery, the design of which dates back to 1942, being destroyed in the Kursk offensive. The design was always under powered even in 1942, but could still serve some purpose against infantry targets. This currently is the record for the age of R...

Government to refuse to make COP pledges legally binding.

A private members bill which would legally require the UK to meet climate targets promised by the UK government at the recent COP meeting, and with signed support of over 80 Labour MPs is to be killed, either by talking it out, or by a three line whip on Labour MPs to vote against it.

COP is dead.

Re: Ukraine Watch...

So we have reached the new US presidential term, and we await Trump's 'day one' solution to the Russian invasion of UKraine. On the ground, there is little new news. Ukraine still holds about half of the area of Kursk it did 5 months ago. The city of Povrosk is still fully in Ukrainian hands, althou...

Re: Government to ease borrowing rules to create growth

Words fail me. This is so obviously going to stoke house prices even higher, and condemn millions to a Lifetime of unpayable debt, followed by a financial crash which will destroy the savings of the more financially conservative.

Re: Butter shortage ?

:) I don't want to get into a flame war on diet. I have been vegetarian for over 30 years and my health is holding up pretty well, so I am not going to change now. Far too much bad research on diet over the last 50 years to pick the best population level diet for the modern lifestyle. What is overtl...

Re: Butter shortage ?

Don't know about carpets, but from a health point of view, a reduction of butter consumption is probably a good thing, assuming it is replaced by some form of unsaturated vegetable fat in the diet. Any shortage of cheeses, on the other hand, would be a national disaster! :)

Re: Ukraine Watch...

At least you now openly gloat about Russian advances, so we know which ideology you prefer. I wish I could say that I was optimistic about the direction the Ukrainian supporting countries were heading, but with Trump taking power and the last vestiges of US democracy falling into the hands of gangst...

Russian "shadow fleet" oil tanker lost power and is adrift in German waters of the Baltic sea. Tugs in attendance. Will be interesting to see ig Germany lets it go again.

Re: Suspected russian attacks on the west.

The black boxes on the South Korean plane crash stopped recording 4 minutes before the crash, suggesting total power failure. Unlikely that there will be a quick resolution to this mystery. Lots of speculation of possible combinations of events, for example bird strike destroys one engine, the pilot...
