Energy resource: Junk mail

When I was doing the Duke O Edinburgh?s Award scheme at school (about 17 yrs ago) I did some gardening for some of the elderly residents, who lived close by. There was one old woman who had a small stove which she used to cook on and keep herself warm in the winter. A significant proportion of her f...

Thanks for the info. Yes it will darken the room but I work nights on a regular basis and have to black out the windows during the day anyway.

question

I have moved into an attic flat with large south facing windows in the roof. I'm wondering if a solar pannel will work effectively if it is behind a double glazed window? I think my landlord would not be too happy with me fixing it to the roof.

Hi DamianB It would seem you can?t honestly drop out of the political and economic system. The laws of the land sure make it hard to prepare for a post peak world. John Seymour in his last book Retrieved From The Future suggest that when the supply of oil becomes tight in the UK there will inevitabl...

Daniel Quinn in his thought provoking book, T he Story of B , traces our destructive human behaviour back to what we call the Neolithic ?Agricultural Revolution? 10000 years ago. In his opinion this label completely obscures the significance of this event. http://www.ishmael.com/welcome.cfm He belie...

Second Agricultural Revolution

About ten years ago I read The Secret Life of Plants and Secrets of the Soil. I was really inspired by these maverick gardeners experimenting with low energy physics. Philip Callahan's 'Towers of Power' and Dan Carlson?s use of frequencies in birdsong to make plant leaves more permeable to airborne ...

Has anyone built a Winiarski Rocket Stove?
I'm about to start having a go at making one with some tincans and vermiculite as insulation. I like the idea about being able to boil water and cook with a few twigs for fuel. Any tips woud be most welcome.
