Re: New coronavirus in/from China

The fall in official new covid cases in the UK continues, albeit more slowly. The Zoe app shows daily cases at more than double the official figure, probably because vaccinated re-infections show symptoms that do not qualify for a PCR test, but even that number is beginning to decline. Hospitalisati...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Very interesting update from the ZOE app by Tim Spectre https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p7ok5aIX6s The app data indicates that (among app users) the rate of infection has flat lined, but not fallen. Spectre thinks this is more reliable than the headline figures. School holidays means far fewer youn...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

The run of rapid daily declines in Covid infections has ended with a rise to 27,700 from 24,000.

We may be seeing the effect of freedom day. Was in Cambridge shopping mall today, about 95% adults wearing masks.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I can tell you why we can't produce enough computer programmers. Firstly the curriculum for it in schools is at least 20 years out of date. Secondly the few schools that do teach it use teachers who do not understand the subject. Thirdly, modern programming is about as intuitive as quantum theory. I...

Re: Ex cop asked to spy on XR

With Patel re-introducing sus laws, re-enabling stop and search without reasonable suspicion, the Tories are setting the scene for a summer of race riots, like the 1980s. What goes around, comes around. We are in the midst of the most reactionary right wing government for 30 years. How long before s...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Do not get too used to your mask free freedoms just yet. There is still winter ahead, and it is only a matter of time before vaccine avoiding variants evolve somewhere in the world. We do not know how long the protective value of the current vaccines or pre infection last. More than half of all adul...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Cases have fallen below 25,000 today. That is 50% fall in less than 10 days. (Monday figures are always a bit lower due to weekend effect) Looking at the rate of testing it has not fallen by much, and so the positivity rate must be falling sharply. By now, the first signs of any freedom day surge sh...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Firstly, as far as I know the booster vaccines being planned are just the same ones we have now. I have not heard anything about updated vaccines being near to approval. The rate that new variants are taking over each other makes me wonder which one would be chosen for a booster anyway. Secondly, ev...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57941574 The UK's current strategy is the ideal breeding ground for vaccine breakout covid variants. The rest of the world will not thank us if a variant emerges here that renders the currently available vaccines largely ineffective. The only upside is that a breako...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

“What we are seeing is a decision by the government to get as many people infected as possible, as quickly as possible, while using rhetoric about caution as a way of putting the blame on the public for the consequences,” said Prof Robert West, a health psychologist at University College London who...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

There seems to be a growing disconnect between the official test result numbers and the ONS random survey data. Test numbers are down to 34000 from 52000 in the last 5 days, but ONS data shows steady rises with 800,000 active cases. This government has finally lost control, but will still act on the...

The Nissan Leaf has had bi-directional charging from day one. Unfortunately this is on the Chademo DC charging port, and as yet there is no domestic bidirectional Chademo charging station available on the open market. One is undergoing trials, but it will be expensive. https://wallbox.com/en_uk/quas...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

The Zoe study has predictably changed their protocol and revised their estimated infection numbers up to about 60,000 a day estimated. Ironically this has coincided with the confirmed cases falling to 40-45,000 for the last 5 days. So again, are we seeing herd immunity in the most socially active, o...
