I think it was BBC Breakfast on Saturday that I was watching and Quentin Wilson was on there bigging up electric cars. I don't know how well respected he is as a motoring expert but he seriously seemed to love the on he had.

I have 40 days food supply for our 3 dogs and maybe 2 months food for us two. It doesn't take up much space at all in tinned form and a sack of potatoes. Regarding Frank's thoughts that he just can't see the Powers That Be turning the electricity off or the water, well, just ask the good people of ...

I can't see the Powers That Be turning the electricity off or the water. It would mean instant panic for the population. Most people can survive without heat, unless they live in a really cold place. I reckon I have enough food at the moment for at least 9 months. More if the electric and water sta...

I can't see why they wouldn't export it. Statistics suggest than they are already exporting 18% more oil in 2010 than they did in 2009.

In a quite unrelated topic, a fella who once fixed my washing machine was the feature conman on rogue traders the other week. He did a top notch job with mine.

Given the amount of people that buy free range eggs over barn eggs, I can't see that milk plant idea going down too well.

Re: How desperate are the USA?

Oil was part of the reason. Another part was that Sadam Hussein was proposing to sell his oil in any currency but the dollar. If that had caught on, the US would have been bankrupted by now. "The American Way Of Life" is paid for by the world's requirement for dollars to trade oil and a f...

How desperate are the USA?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this between here and "living in the future" but I decided to post it here because there is more traffic. I've recently been reading Power Down by Richard Heinberg. While some of it paints a largely one-sided argument against the Bush regime (in favour of ...

Hola Señor The buses will, or at least should, have priority for diesel stocks in a severe shortage. But just about the only groups without some priority need in a fuel emergency would be hairdressers and fashion designers... Another hot tip - keep a corded landline phone. It means you can be conta...

I gather that the train operators moved towards having shorter trains, run more frequently, which apparently suits the travelling public. But we all know about overcrowding at the busiest times, and the cramped layout of modern carraiges (airline style) getting rid of first class would help overcro...

Breakfast cereals take the biscuit. They only fill the bag inside half full meaning they could save on the plastic bag and the cardboard. I get all my fruit and veg (that I don't grow myself) from the local market so packaging is at a minimum. Even so, I've lost count of the number of times I've had...

I think the statistics need to be more widely reported. Even if there is dispute about when we reach PO it is still frighteningly no matter which statistics you choose to believe yet people don't seem largely aware. Once people here the stats they tend to stand up and take note.

Are you basing this statement on the shining su...
