Almost as good as Dubya last week saying that the biggest threat to the environment was stagnant economies, and what was required was for every country's economy to be growing. Is it just me, or is that nuts? No, no it's not just you. *boggles* China and India certainly have growing economi...

In the commons this morning, the Tories threw all their support to the government 'on this issue'. The dems are too few to stand against them, and even doing so might get one labelled 'traitor', 'aiding the enemy'. I may have missed some subtlety of politics, but it will be far easier tomorrow than ...

If things continue as they are going, they might well be. Would that benefit terrorism, do you think? It would certainly create far more division and strife.

Maybe they're trying to break it to people gently. Cause less of a catastrophic economic meltdown.

The thing that really got me was how the government put up big fences to stop them fishing. I mean, why would you ever do that? Are a group of starving citizens with fishing poles really going to wreck the fishing industry?

Cruel. Why are they like that?

I disagree about the divisions disappearing. I think peak oil would only make them worse. People always want someone else to blame, and when life is hard, tolerance and acceptance become scarce.

Re: Career change

Well, thanks to Hubbert, we know that oil depletion isn't like turning a tap on. It isn't going to flow out at a steady rate, and then suddenly stop, it will peter out. Studies in countries (like the US) and on individual oilfields give evidence for this. As for it peaking soon...I'm not a geologist...

I agree with you more or less. It will be interesting to see what PO will do to the orange/green conflict. I imagine it will only make it worse. Each side will find some way to blame the other. Global warming could cause problems, making summers hotter and winters harsher. It's already beginning. Le...
