Big Green Gathering Buying tickets for me and my family today. Anyone else going? I have to say that I find events like these very interesting but my social circle has exactly zero people interested in green issues and I'd feel a little lost by myself having never been to anything like this before....

Fighting a losing battle..
I think it was Michael Ruppert who normally says "I don't want to save the world, the world doesn't want saving. I want to save you". With this in mind I read the BBC debate on car sharing lanes (link below) and it really shows how right Michael is. Its nice to see some people realising th...

The other option is that PowerSwitch CIC is set up simply with the remit of organising events raising awareness and dicussion of oil depletion, rather than calling for any policy changes in particular. But the very core of the peak oil discussion involves political change and pretty huge political ...

Also in another thread we calculated that the cost of transport by a tanker is less than 0.5% of typical goods and by lorries from central Europe some 4%. So even with oil price increasing by 4, imports will retain their advantage over local production, provided salary differentials remain. A rise ...

Okay well it was just an example, a rather poor example I guess :) I guess I could have used wood as a better illustration of something we'd need more of, since wood is a pretty vital material, especially in a post-oil world. I was just trying to say that food is not the only thing land is needed fo...

But hold on, that's based on the current world infrastructure in which we get a lot of products from abroad, clothes for example. If we weren't able to do that then we'd need to allocate land for more sheep, cotton plants (can we even grow them here?) and so forth. It's not as straightforward as you...

Both fair points. I recently took a few Geology modules in my Open Uni course and I was amazed to see just how balanced nature really is. As you say, I don't think nature has specific reason, but I do think it's very construction enforces rules upon the planet. If an area of land provides abundant f...

I've been in this position myself and I found out that the best course of action is to not mention it. Why? Well people have a very very rigid grasp on their own reality. If your words don't fit into her reality then a best she'll just not accept it and at worse she'll lash out at you. I've met exac...

ITV blame it all on the French and Germans
Did anyone else see the late ITV news on Friday night? They reported a story about record gas prices but, rather than blame it on Peak Oil and Gas, they blamed the French and Germans for taking too much of the Russian supply. I thought I was dreaming for a moment. Not a mention of our own dwindling ...
