I wonder though if this could be a premonition for the future! Most of Europe is going to become ever more dependant on Russian gas and aren't we presumably at the 'end of a long pipeline'. Therefore maybe in the long term we might be blaming Germany and France cause they'll get it before we do! God...

I'd advise everyone to read the article 'Fishertrop' links to above. Financial sense online is a good website, but I generally find it is trying to advocate the purchase of precious metals to it's readers. If what is being said is true (the M3 figures are to be hidden from public view, many top fed ...

Hi Magnus - I really wouldn't get into the prediction game on PO if I was you! It's just not worth it. No one knows the true figures, either production or reserves, most peak predictions are therefore little more than guesses, there's no real significant supply problems yet (even with the gulf of Me...

On the side issue of 'threads'/the nuclear issue. Some of you seem to think this issue has gone away. Well the nuclear issue is a bit like the peak oil issue, it has gone away - from the main stream media at least!! I suggest some of you investigate what Bush and his cronies are proposing for space ...

Stacks of Downloadable Goodies!
Just thought the following site might be of interest to most people here:- http://www.radio4all.net/ Basically Radio4all is a site that collects together many downloadable radio programmes/speeches etc, many of which are bound to be of interest to people with environmental/energy/democracy concerns....

My god I nearly had a stroke when I saw Mr Kunstler on Newsnight last night! Has the world been invaded by sane people at last! Never mind that most of the debate wasn't particularly good, due to the flat earth economists etc. Shame someone didn't hightlight the problems with hydrogen after some of ...
I'm not saying Bush isn't religious (it would be better if he and all political leaders weren't however - but that's another point!) but surely all he's doing with these biblical/religious quotes is appealing to his electorate. They know the Christian demographics in the States, Pat Robinson's Bush'...

Oh I agree completely Roger - if we could convince the whole of the country that for the good of mankind we need to completely alter our form of consumptive living and revert to a system where we live a much more sustainable form of existence, things in the long run would no doubt be much more stabl...

Meacher the preacher!
Having just read Greg Palast's book - The Best Democracy Money Can Buy (which you all should read if you have the time or inclination) an interesting quote about Michael Meacher (that ex environment minister who keeps changing his mind about whether this issue is serious or not) is in it. The quote ...

One thing that lets this test down is the fact that it basically tells you what it's looking for from the start - gullibility. Therefore it automatically pre-disposes you to think in a 'cynical' manner etc and you're biased you before you start! Therefore it can't be considered to be independent or ...

I really do think though that poeple have got to start being made more aware of essential conservation measures so that if we do have a severe winter we can all just about get buy. Simple things like only having your heating turned up to 17/18 degrees combined with warm clothes, turning radiators do...

Skeptic - By years ago I wasn't saying like 20 years ago! I just mean that they probably became aware there was a problem when the Caspian reserve estimates were plumitting a few years back - this was after all supposed to be a new Saudi Arabia. Any clued up analyst would have reported this as a ser...

Reducing voltage will not reduce overall power consumption. Power is equal to the voltage multiplied by the current. A device will require a certain amount of Power (energy) to operate correctly. That device might require 100 watts of power. Therefore theorectically (as most things won't just work o...
