I've escaped London and am now back in the NW so may be able to escape for more beers again!

Let me know when / where!

Yeah, the couscous is about 1.5 c/g - I'll try it out for taste as well though :-)

Great suggestions! I had just bought some AH Instant cous cous, some small tins of smoked mackerel pate, and some of the dried Chorizo that keeps for months. Have got plenty of chocolate and Tracker bars at home to add for eating-while-cycling, I do really fancy some salted roasted peanuts now thoug...

Lightweight Stoves

Continuing my theme, any good suggestions on lightweight stoves? I've been considering something like this solid fuel one: Esbit solid fuel stove

The aim is four-five days use on trip from London - Manchester.

OK, next question . . .to cook or not to cook ?

Four-five days travel - high energy requirement. Not carrying own water (much). Can it be done easily without a cooker? (Not wanting to depend on dry twigs found on way)

OK, have ordered the Karrimor 2-person. For £55 it was worth a go - although I'll be doing a fair bit of testing in the garden before depending on it. I'll let you know how I go.

Lightweight tents

OK, BOB is filling nicely. Next stop - a tent. Just saw these on sale: Karrimor X Lite 1 Tent for £45 Only 1.95kg for the one person version. Hard to see how long the poles are (for putting on bike) but looks like a good deal? There's a 2person for £55 but 250g heavier  Any thoughts or other su...

Thanks for all the tips!

Ironically, the extra spending that my Bug-out preps require should stimulate the economy and make collapse less likely

New coat and shoes sorted, now for bike, maps, tent, planning etc

And then there's the issue of fitness ...

Re: Bugging Out Of London

Harry Morgan, BitSlice10101, welcome and thanks for your input. Interesting point about the ESRs, I assume they won't have changed much. As I've said previously, I don't forsee overnight shut-down of the entire city and national transport network, but a small grab pack with tent, map and some basic...

Thanks for a ll the good advice guys. It's a little worrying that I had already been heading towards jonny2mad's thoughts on travelling at night, wearing good, everyday-looking clothing rather than camo etc. And I'd just been looking at the sustrans routes. Unsure about these? often quite narrow, ea...

Do you have any friends in London whose house/flat would tolerate a bit of extra stuff (e.g. Brompton if you can't keep it in the office)? Also, have you thought of doing a "practice run" one weekend, just to get an idea of the distance/time/difficulty, and to suss out in advance any plac...

If each person who reads these articles properly makes a bit more in the way of preps, even simple stuff like installing water-barrels or having a week's food instead of 2 days in the house, then they're doing some good. Absolutely agree. even if each article just gets a few to make a change we mig...

Re: Bugging out of London

We can convoy back together on train/Brompton Andrew :) Feel free to borrow my Brompton for a few days to see if it works out for you. Good points in this thread. I'll admit that being a part-time London worker the same scenario has crossed my mind, but for some reason it's never played a part in m...
