I voted 'No' on the ban... I've learned a lot about oil & energy from RGR's posts on various forums over the last 4 years or so, even if it does sometimes require researching whatever he makes references to. I'm quite able to gloss over his posts whenever I don't think they're useful.

I'm happy to accept their decline rates are faulty. Can you offer some more accurate ones that will give us a better idea of when we are more likely to see consistent global declines?

I have to agree with Vortex on this. The BNP are most certainly not stupid. He is claiming AGW is a hoax simply because the majority of the British public think it's being exaggerated. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jun/22/climatechange.carbonemissions . It's a vote winner. Be the only p...

You're confusing EROEI with efficiency - power plants may well be 35% efficient, but may have an EROEI of 20 (provides 20 times more energy over its lifetime than was consumed building/maintaining/decommissioning it). Surely the EROEI of the power plant has to include the efficiency doesn't it ? If...

5% a year, giving 50% in ten years (2020). 7% average decline due to lack of new investment 50% in 7 years, 2016. Thanks Ralph, that's a useful line of thought but is the sunshine affecting my arithmetic or is there something wrong with those numbers? Looks like they've been calculated additively. ...

Totally agree, as this is the one technology that could pull us out of our environmental\energy situation you'd think that the PTB would be throwing absolutely everything at it. If they did we could have it up and running way, way quicker than 30 years. Then again, looking at the calibre of the sci...

Re: Why don't they get it?

Researchers showed rather upper class middle aged women a series of pictures and words rapidly, and asked them to remember them. Interspersed with “ordinary” words were foul language expressions of the sort these ladies would never use. Interestingly when asked, these subjects remembered all the or...

25.

Since I rent, and have no intention of even trying to buy a house (or ability to afford one) until prices come down much more, there is really little I can do one way or another.

I'm more optimistic than most PO'ers.

Re: Should we simply prepare for a prolonged downturn?

I have mentioned PO to 15 or 16 people, and I've STILL yet to make a convert :) The reactions I've got have been denial or an immediate change of subject. I wonder what's different about me that I accepted it from the start - probably innate pessimism I suppose :) I'd wager it's more likely the way...

Norway is a special case, they have excellent hydro resources supplying near 100% of their requirements. The rest of the world is not so well endowed in renewables. I simply find it hard to believe that we can expand our demand for electricity through electrification of transport, maintain our curr...

Matches pretty well my thoughts on the subject.

I do wonder though, what would have happened had there not been a global recession to kill off oil demand. How high would proces have gone? Would 'Peak Oil' have really gone mainstream? Guess we'll never know now.
