I know what you mean. One day in my job everything was fine, then the next day they pull us all aside and tell us there will be lay-offs. I was one of the newest people there so I'm made redundant in less than a week. That was June. Now I'm in a place which is irresponsible to say the least, it's a ...

Becoming a swordsman?

I expect at least one person would be either slightly bemused or annoyed with my suggestion. Well if you are, feel free to voice your opinion. I feel uncomfortable asking this. I'm not a violent man, just know that if TSHTF, preparation only stretches as far as to the point where a hungry mob busts ...

Good answer. I looked for your comment through HYS but couldn't find it. Even though prices are going up because of resource depletion, I think that the energy companies are capitalising on the problem, raising prices even higher than they should be to get profits. They know about the problems too, ...

Ah, I was going to come but I thought it was in the middle of August for some reason. If it's tomorrow then I don't think I'll be able to make it I'm afraid :(

Hey everyone, thanks for words of advice and encouragement! Would you say that being a farmer would be your preferred course of action if TSHTF? If not, then what would you do? If things get really bad, then I should be capable to eat dead rats (if thats all there is) but I prefer not to if time wou...

Being nomadic or being a settler/farmer?

Hello there, I'm preparing for Peak Oil at my own speed but as I live in a suburban middle-class neighbourhood here in the South-East I have had little chance to improve my agricultural knowledge but I have managed to become reasonbly physically fit (yesterday I missed the bus so I jogged nearly eig...

I don't see PO as a black swan event, but more as something lurking in the dark. We know its there, we can sense its presence and we can hear its minor movements yet we won't know what it really is until it decides to finally emerge from the dark and fully reveal itself. We can guess and prepare for...

Are you coming to Kenneal's get together in August? You'd be forced to be sociable there.
It does sound a good idea, although I have no idea for the directions to get there. Are shy yet loud-mouthed 20 year olds a common visitor at these get togethers?

Thanks.[/quote]

It's easy to entertain yourself with romantic visions of the past with a pseudo-recreation in the future. The future will be different and identified in its own way, so it won't be some LOTR Shire fantasy or some 18th Century idylic country dream but perhaps a mixture of the old or new.

I've always loved the Hobbit burrows as they are called. Being dug into the Earth must also save a fortune on heating which will be an added bonus if gas and heating prices become so high.

Life After People, C4 Monday 9pm

Does anybody intend to watch this programme on Channel 4 on Monday? It appears that it will deal with the scenario that humanity becomes extinct in the present and shows life on Earth from a year or so after the extinction to ten thousand years in the future. It really highlights the fact that citie...
