I've read that the difference is that the us loans are non-recourse loans whereas over here they are recourse loans. I do wonder what would have happened here if all house loans were non recourse - would it have made the lenders more cautious ... probably not going by the US experience. Cheers, Steve

not directly relevant to the OP , but I had/have a large leccy bill and last year bought a power meter from maplins to try to determine where it was going . average daily usage was ~25kwh , hopefully a little less now. One major item of this was computer usage with my box (linux) being on ~14hrs/day...
