Re: Brexit Watch

We haven't been out of the EU for six months yet and you are expecting "instant gratification", Mark, and most other Remainers are the same come to that. Leaving the EU is a multi year project and I don't expect things will get better for a few years yet. It requires a whole readjustment ...

Re: Brexit Watch

Certainly great news about the Anglesey hydrogen hub, but struggle to see how it can be attributed to Brexit ? https://www.lleol.cymru/custom/domain_1/extra_files/attach3_6152.pdf https://www.euractiv.com/section/energy/news/leaked-europes-draft-hydrogen-strategy/ The UK imported around 6% of its el...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Yes I would be fascinated to hear a convincing explanation why Mark's comments are rubbish. Some folk seem to be highly emotionally attached to the notion that UK performance is in every way superior to the pathetic efforts of various untrustworthy and devious Johnny Foreigners. I am not holding my...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Mark, there's a Brexit post elsewhere for that sort of rubbish. adam2 made a comment that Southern Europe has a flexible approach to health and safety re COVID. I merely responded that with 127,000+ deaths - far worse that most comparable countries - we're in no position to criticise. It wasn't a c...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Most of the popular holiday destinations in Southern Europe have a flexible approach to health and safety, and will consider attracting tourist money to be more important than the loss of a few low status staff. Yes, those dreadfully awful Europeans...... nothing like our superior British H&S, ...

Re: Brexit Watch

To some up, the status quo was voted for. A highly smug/complacent/simplistic summary, Stumuz..... My take is that Brexit still forms a big part in voting patterns in England.... Brexit was very much driven by (mostly working class) English Nationalists - confirmed by the Tory vote in Hartlepool an...

Brexit Watch

As the Brexit thread has been closed, thought I'd start a new one to discuss the consequences..... My 3 major concerns pre-Brexit were: (1) Increased legislation/bureaucracy and hence reduced trade with the EU (2) Replacement of low skilled Polish/Romanian labour with Indian/Nigerian etc. in order t...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Agree Adam. Further, what i'm seeing on the news are cylinders which have clearly been used for toxic gas, class 2.3, being refilled with oxygen ( or so they say). There will be many deaths from inhalation of toxic gas poisoning put down as covid. Easy to criticize from our ivory towers... desperat...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

The coronavirus DOES seem to "discriminate" and attack dark skinned people more often, or with more severe symptoms than white people. At least three possible reasons have been suggested for this. 1) Similar diseases may have occurred in ancient times, and spread rapidly in Medieval citie...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

A recent case of Indians being allowed out of Australia to go to India 'to attend a wedding' then came back with Covid and infected other people in the quarantine facility does not improve my opinion of them. Supposedly Australian residents are only allowed out on urgent business so I guess it is o...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

Most travel to the UK from India was only banned at 04:00 today... Public Health England say that the total number of B.1.617 infections (Indian "double mutation" variant) is now 132. The actual number will be a lot higher - let's see how it plays..... Slow border closures will be another ...
