If I decided to come into your house and take over 4/5ths of it by force because I have some powerful friends supporting me, kill off half your family and imprison the rest in the remaining 1/5th, you would try to do a lot more than fire 4 rockets a month at me and mine. Materials for schools and e...

opening a grocery store
Someone approached me to open a grocery/convienence store. The store will also have a butchers section. Is this really a good time to open this type of store now, and invest £20,000 into it? Is a grocery store gonna be ok for the future if TSHTF? I have been thinking that if TSHTF then the value of ...

Re: Predictions, 2008
Well, it's that time of year and someone on another forum had the bright idea of dragging up last year's predictions....so here's mine for me to laugh at in 12 months time. - Credit crunch to go up several notches in the 1st quarter - Some big brands to go bust or have serious problems (Woolies, Bo...

I am pretty sure you can, but the premium on a 1/10 ounce bar would be such a high % of the value of the bar that it tends to invalidate it as a serious investment, perhaps more as a novelty gift. As an investment they probably would be pointless, but I'm thinking I might buy a bit of gold as a eme...

Gold coins have a premium of about 12% compared to gold bar, as they are often limited in number so collectable and have historical value (IMO making them a far better investment than gold bar). Coins on Ebay are also very expensive. And also the Canadian Maple tends to be a very expensive coin com...

petrol at 7p per litre
i've just come back from a trip to saudi arabia. Petrol there is only 1 riyal for 2 litres. That works out at about 7p for a litre of petrol, and trust me even for them 1 riyal is nothing, it is dirt cheap, water is more expensive. And whats more taxi drivers told me, last year it was more expensive...

Are some of the prepartions even worth it?
I am thinking aloud right now more than anything, if I am thinking wrong can someone set me straight please. Can we really prepare for life when TSHTF? Those who prepare will be very few and hence they will be the ones who have the neccesities of life such as basic food, hot water, the knowhow etc. ...

Thanks for the answers. Mobbsey, you raise an interesting pint. What is electricity exactly going to be used for post peak, when modern tech is not going to feasible to manufacture? However, what are you going to use the power for? Modern technology -- computers, compact fluorescent bulbs, etc. -- r...

Electricity
ok, This may sound like a really pathetic question, but can someone just please explain to me in dodo terms. Are we or are we not going to lose electricity? I have read many places "doomers" saying that we are headed back to the 15th century, and then many other "doomers" recomme...
