Re: Sheep kills two people in NZ
A herd was coming up my road, I was walking down it. I jumped up on a flowerbed, about 60-70cm high and stood with my back to a wall. A cow broke out of the herd, came towards me and butted me on the chin, chipping a tooth and giving me a nasty bruise and pain for a week, plus mental shock. I kicked...

Re: Small solar lamp
I've just found ANOTHER failed PV module. Seems like some sort of planned obsolescence.

Small solar lamp
I bought some solar lamps from Ikea about a decade ago (called 'Sunnan') and they were brilliant. One day, two of them just gave up the ghost. I suspected dead batteries but no. In both lamps, the solar panel seems to have simply stopped working. No output from either of them. I suspect heat damage,...

Re: Preparing for extreme heatwaves.
There are fans (some quite large) that can be recharged via USB and potentially easily connect to PV. We have one in the campervan which gets recharged via the panel on the roof. Do you have a link to a supplier ? The only USB charged fans that I have seen have been very small and therefore of limi...

Re: EU Elections.
The two dominant, entrenched centre-right parties in Ireland have taken most seats in recent local elections, with the far-right taking about 4% of the total, still too many. The two traditional parties benefitted from a low turnout.

Re: Findhorn Ecovillage
I spent an afternoon there a bit over a decade ago - wasn't that impressed, all looked a bit tired, weren't many people living there, seemed to be a lot of spiritual, religious stuff going on. Didn't really seem very 'eco'. But I was only there for a few hours, only saw the public front of the plac...

Re: General Election 2024
It seems an odd time to call an election: the tories must know they don't stand much of a chance.
But do they know something else which others don't?

Re: Slugmageddon
I never found out what 'diatomacious earth' was but some people swear by it. Perhaps that's an American term for something that has a different name in Brit English. It's not much use against slugs but, in dry conditions, said to be useful against bed bugs and animal fleas. The food grade variety i...

That might happen if you keep your dog on a lead. Cows are usually more curious about dogs and will crowd and crush you because of the dog.RenewableCandy wrote: ↑06 May 2024, 15:28 Also here in the UK a surprisingly large number of people get killed by cows (not bulls, I mean actual cows).

Re: Humanure again: a user's verdict.
We have some hardwood sawdust but, because of its 'flyaway' quality, makes up only about 10% of the total sawdust used. Not noticed anything smelly, not since we started separating the pee. Now that would take the lining of your nose off!

Re: What do you think would happen if something similar to covid turns up in the near future?
I am intrigued as to what basis you decided not to get vaccinated and if you still feel it was a wise decision based on credible information? Personally I took everything on offer and am very glad I did. You didn't suffer in any way? That's good. Again, I can only offer anecdotage (that should be a...

Re: What do you think would happen if something similar to covid turns up in the near future?
These are very specific, biologically material statements/assertions Got any material evidence for them you'd like to share? I got covid badly, then again a year later somewhat similarly. Since the first bout I was never really free of it. It hits the immune system in a way that one finds it hard t...
