https://wingsoverscotland.com/the-tools-of-the-union/#more-100555 Story belatedly referred to by Herald Scotland but not so far by the majority of Brit meeja. [Well, well...] But it looks as though the opposition will be under new management by the time we line up for the 2nd leg of this fixture. P...

My prediction, for what it's worth: Tories - small increase in seats, mainly at the expense of Labour - increase due to May being seen as most credible leader for Brexit negotiations Labour - further shrinkage into their heartlands due to no clear message on Brexit and Corbyn factor LibDems - reaso...

All metals other than gold are mined pretty much exclusively because the metal is destined for use in some product that performs a practical function. Gold is an exception as it is the only metal the bulk of which is left in heaps gathering dust. I've pondered about this too and come to the conclus...

Tangential but pertinent views expressed in some of these letters to the Guardian, but I suppose John doesn't agree with all of them: http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/jun/25/economic-case-against-austerity-uk-overwhelming Suggestions on Guardian page from Greek politicians that referendum o...

So nothing that happens will be nice and Grexit could be a particularly brutal resolution of things. So should they sign a contract giving Vlad several dozen tons of gold in exchange for guaranteed food, oil and medicine for x months while they get the New Drachma going? It's what rainy day money is...

As it's an SNP thread, here are the thoughts of our resident legal cybernat on the Alistair Carmichael situation and the Recall Of MPs Act 2015: http://lallandspeatworrier.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/why-alistair-carmichael-cant-be-recalled.html I offer it not so much in the spirit of nationalism as to g...

Someone in the Guardian CiF boards suggested that the Fixed Term Parliaments Act would still allow the Tories to prorogue Parliament for 15 days after losing a Queen's Speech vote. Thus avoiding a second confidence vote. And resulting in an immediate G.E. 2.0. Ah hae ma doots if this wad be popular ...

I'm not so sure that the SNP could not break out of Scotland. It might take a name change to reflect a change of focus, but if their brand of socialism is such a huge hit north of the border, it my well be very attractive south as well in many big cities. They could lobby for city regions to gain t...

Agree, but I still cannot vote for them. In addition, Labour backing up the SNP might well fail. Also, an SNP / Labour coalition will likely fail. Amazingly, the Tories are not making much noise about this. If Cameron had any sense, he could say: 'Vote Labour, get a Scottish vote over English affai...

The general feeling seems to be that while Syriza are way out in front, they are unlikely to win an outright majority. IMHO they will have to enter some horse-trading, which might leave hardline Syriza supporters somewhat disappointed. Yes, they should be the largest party, but what then? There mig...

My point stands. SNP is about Scotland. Plaid is about Wales. I was up in Glasgow when the independence vote was going on - I do not remember anyone from the rUK taking part in that debate. Not Cameron or Farage or Milliband or Clegg. Guess everyone can vote on England but the English cant vote on ...
