Thanks for posting the critique of ?Twilight??; I?ve read through the paper but I?m still not convinced for the following reasons: 1) Some 18 months ago I studied at length an hour long online streaming presentation by Matt Simmons re Saudi reserves (sorry but cannot recall the exact presentation ri...

I suspect you are correct in that we will have to pay market prices. I think the LNG is under a 25 year contract , so I presume although we pay the market rate, it cannot be hijacked by the US. http://www.hydrocarbons-technology.com/projects/raslaffanref/ I think to get in perspective, France , Spa...

There is a Norwegian gas pipeline starting supply in 2007 which can supply up to 20% of UK gas demand. :) There is also Milford Haven LNG port that commences supply from 2008 which can supply upto 33% of UK gas demand (suppliers are Qatar, Malaysia, Algeria et al) North Sea gas can supply upto 60% ...

I was personally disappointed with Oil Storm. It started well, covering a temporary oil crisis brought about by environmental disaster, political turmoil and human error. However, its failure was in the depiction of 4 super-tankers, each carrying 2 million barrels of oil, turning around a depressio...

Re: Oil Storm on UKTV Docs tonight - Repeats

UKTV Docs is showing Oil Storm ( http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/oilstorm/main.html ) at 9pm tonight. It's build as the first showing in the UK. Channel 564 if you have Sky. For those who missed it last night (as I did) it's being repeated today - at 1000 hrs + 1400 hrs (and via UKTV Docs...

I dont think you can say that the ex-Shell person is now free to speak his mind, and yet say that the ex-Halliburton person is still playing the company tune. They are both'ex's' but are certainly not in agreement. I have to say the Hallibrton man does at least attempt to get technical in why he di...

Interesting (and alarming!). Yet I see the former head of Halliburton has been quoted as saying Simmonds is wrong about Saudi Arabia and claims they still have a ton of oil. Its difficult knowing who has an axe to grind and who is covering who.......... It's interesting to see an ex-Shell explorati...

Retired Hydrocarbon Explorer endorses Peak Oil

Letter in Sunday Times, Sept 25, 2005. NEW ENERGY: Never mind global warming (serious though that is). We need many new nuclear power stations to produce at least half the power we require. In 10-15 years? time we will be dependent on very expensive oil and gas largely from the former Soviet Union a...

M1 Major Road Upgrade

We need to start with challenging air flight predict and provide and go on to the rest. I agree but, to quote John Westwood, energy consultant who addressed the Offshore Europe 2005 conference in Aberdeen last week re peak oil, 'what we don't have is time'. Currently there are 2 major rail routes f...

UK Gov't to Invest ?438m in Unsustainable Transport

I note scheme will be completed in 2011 and wonder whether it will 'deliver a robust transport solution for 30+ years' (typically the minimum criteria to justify such projects)?

Limits to Growth - 1972

I still have a copy of the original Club of Rome projections bought from a second hand shop in the early eighties when I was a student. I had a quick look through recently and it all makes sense - it had a timescale of fossil fuel depletion of 30 years or so (and various other timescales for metals...

Can I just check this again - the SA rep said that by 2010 all they would be managing was 12m barrel a day? Thats a hell of a step down from what they have been claiming they could deliver and not really enough to balance the demand equation is it? I can confirm I distinctly recall the ref to 12m b...
