We have been asked to compose an Early Day Motion for an MP on the subject of Peak Oil. Have a look at this one - what would you change? It shouldn't be much longer than this.
That this house calls on the government to recognise the strong
possibility of a global peak in conventional oil production by 2010;
that this event means that global oil supplies will begin to terminally
decline and in turn an increase in global oil demand will not be met;
that unconventional oil and alternative fuels will not be able to fully
meet the growing gap between supply and demand thus we will see the end
of cheap and abundant oil with ever more challenging consequences for
transport, agriculture, employment, the financial system, peace and
security; furthermore calls for the government to acknowledge that even
if the peak were not to happen for another 30 years it must begin
planning now and using the resources we have for the mitigation of these
eventual consequences including a full awareness campaign to prepare the
public for and engage them in the necessary changes ahead.

Looks good, though it may be better to state oil and gas 2015.

Good text. My only worry is that the (admittedly necessary) inclusion of the terms 'peace and security' may well be read as further reason for the govt to continue the security clampdown we-have-your-number-ID-cards bandwagon, and that's a shame.

<sigh> But the fact is, it's true, so it must be said.

Can't add to that. Well done.

John Hemming is now posting on peakoil.com - any chance we could get him to join us too?

How do MPs sign up for the EDM? Mine said that he would do so, but hasn't. But then, they're all off on their hols. Will nothing happen until they return to Westminster? or did I ought to badger the bloke again?

Done. I was initally thinking that James should contact him more formally. Maybe a couple of you could request the same via his blog?

One thing I do is monitor where people visit my blog from. Hence I read this thread and am quite happy to register for this forum. However, depending upon how busy I am I may or may not find out what is going on.

The server seems a bit overloaded at the moment and has crashed on many attempts to run it.

Incidentally one of my projects to do economic forecasting using the treasury model taking into account oil constraints. I now have most of the standard treasury model and hope to have this working tomorrow.

Best way of communicating with me is via email.

I am also registered on the peakoil forum, but that has a high level of traffic.
