Perhaps, perhaps not.

Dr Norths "Days of Glory" blog (and book soon) is a stunning view into just how much of accepted "history" is pure fiction.
Sorry to disagree but history is written by the winners. As long as they prevail the 'truth' rarely surfaces. Katyn Wood massacre is a good example, the real reasoning behind the Iraq invasion will be another.

But we now know the truth about the Katyn massacre, don't we?

As I said, it can take decades or more for the truth to come out - enough time needs to elapse that no one any longer has an interest in manipulating the story. Of course the problem then is that evidence may be harder to come by.

One of the reasons I frequently find myself in the "conspiracy theorist" camp is that, over the past 5 years, I've come to realise just how much control all governments exert over "history". The press daren't rock the boat too much for fear of bringing down the whole structure of society. So by definition those mavericks who do speak the truth are outsiders, and their mere status as outsiders is sufficient to expose them to ridicule.

Never be an outsider if you want to get on. Sod the truth.

Getting back on topic......

Our electricity supplier has just increased their tarriffs by 18.6%. If this isn't a good motivator to reduce electricity usage I don't know what is.

As a commentator on the radio discussed yesterday, the fact that electricity, gas and oil resources are all increasing by big jumps, is going to have a knock-on effect on all products we buy as, of course, they all have those input resources in manufacturing. Interesting that one of the member of the discussion said we will hit Peak Oil in the next 2 years and thereafter oil will decline. Didn't manage to hear their names, but yet more public prenouncements.....

This is why inflation will increase, despite what the BoE is trying to tell us.

Agreed Ludwig, a lot of our official history is at best only a partial truth and at times total lies. For example the real dealings between our ruling elite and the Nazi Germany during WW2 (and the secret negtiotations with the SS and the King and senior elements within MI6).

What about the real extent of Soviet penetration of the British establishment? How many other agents were there? What was the truth about Harold Wilson? What about the rumours about Mountbatton and the possibility of him being a KGB agent? How much blackmail did the KGB have on Prince Philip (and his affairs during the fifties where he was linked with the Profumo circles)
Peace always has been and always will be an intermittent flash of light in a dark history of warfare, violence, and destruction
