Conservative party/opposition watch

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

I completely agree with his analogy. People wanting freedom from government.
Erm, brexit did not free anybody from any government. It just moved certain powers from one level of government to another.

How can anyone liken Brexit to the resistance to the Russian invasion of Ukraine ? That's madness.

When the Brexit referendum was held nobody knew what leaving the EU would accomplish - the public was so thoroughly pissed off with politics that they were prepared to vote leave in order to break the system, hoping that something decent would rise from the ashes.

Ukraine, on the other hand, had already left the oppression of the USSR and was happily forging a new economy and enjoying their democratically elected politicians.

Brexiteers were fighting for change, Ukrainians are fighting against change.

Brexiteers were fighting for change, eventually got it and are now fighting not to lose it again!

I saw an article from a former EU Commissioner who said that without Britain being outside the EU we wouldn't have had such a quick EU response to the Ukrainian invasion. If Britain hadn't been outside the EU to galvanise the EU into action there would still be an EU committee talking about how to respond!

Erm, we can now vote who wealds those powers. Basic democracy.

It's exactly the same thing.

We knew it would strengthen democracy.

You'll be saying that brexiteers are thick and racist next.. :D

So wrong. the pernicious shadow of the Russian state has always loomed large in Ukraine. Trying to apply to the EU is a lesser evil. Once in the EU for a few years, they would then vote to leave.

Brexiteers were voting for democracy.

Absolutely!
Germany would have talked any action into the ground. France needing the German target 2 would have said a lot and done little.

We saw the EU writ large when Russia invaded Crimea. Yata yata yata blah blah blah, please my we continue to buy your cheap oil and gas thank you very much, Mr Putin.
It took Brexit and NLAW's to put a bit of lead in their pencil.

So was being in the EU. All that has changed is the level at which various powers lie. The new situation is no "more democratic" than the previous one.

Erm...this is the same Germany that has responded by unilaterally deciding to re-arm?

As if.
Average educational attainment, median income and social class in English local authorities were the strongest predictors of how residents in that area voted in the referendum.

We find that voting Leave is associated with older age, white ethnicity, low educational attainment, infrequent use of smartphones and the internet, receiving benefits, adverse health and low life satisfaction.

The same Germany that is currently paying Putin vast sums everyday for oil and gas, to pay for the munitions to kill civilians in Ukraine? The same Germany that talks a good job on re-arming. We will see.

Time will tell who is talking crap.

So you have come to the conclusion that the English are thick and racist for voting to take back democracy, does that extend to the Welsh?

About the same time you got to vote for Queen Elizabeth II.

The EU isn't fundamentally any more or less democratic than the UK is. It is just a different level of government.

You think people voted to take back democracy, I think they voted for something else entirely.
