Conservative party/opposition watch

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Really worth watching John Major's speech (and Q&A) today. He doesn't focus on Johnson, cake or crisps, but looks a the far bigger picture of politics in general.

Seems like the conservative party does not need outside commentators to point out their very obvious problems, they're doing a fine job on their own.

Indeed, but only 15 Tory MPs have publicly called for the Prime Minister to resign
Anyone's guess how many have written, but not made it public ?
Letters from at least 54 MPs needed to trigger a vote.

He might limp along as a lame duck until the local elections ?

Yes it is a very impressive communications strategy engineered by world class professionals.
The new incumbent should prove quite a cracker or maybe just crackers!

So presumably no one currently under investigation by the Met will have *any* role in appointing her successor? ...who presumably can't be Bas Javid!

Does anybody understand the process?

Is it like selecting a new Pope or Dali Lama ?

Maybe it is Mayor of London vs the mad Home Secretary?

So the most senior police officer on the country is to be appointed by a man under criminal investigation by the most senior police officer in the country. What could possibly go wrong?

My prefered red candidate would be Louisa Rolfe, but I suspect a more traditional male will be selected, perhaps ex military.

Wouldn't be too sure. Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary currently is Tom Winsor. Was recruited from the private sector. Caused quite an uproar at the time. The post usually went to an ex chef constable.

So it looks like Boris made it through another week.
Parliament in recess so no coordinated world exclusive media scoops about half packet of crisps, bang in the middle of PMQ's.

Seems John Majors speech has fizzled out as the uber remainer, anti Boris whinge it was. Remember Major hates Johnston with a vengeance for the all the entertaining anti EU stories he wrote as Brussels correspondent for the Telegraph.

So, another couple of weeks at least of Boris as PM.

It's not impossible. The longer he stays there, the more damage he's doing to to the tory party.

I think he'll be gone by the end of this week. This is going to finish him off.

No, that's simply not true. Did you watch it in full? The reporting on it was rubbish, the Q&A after was weak, journalists just looking for a headline soundbite. The speech was broad with a deep historical and geopolitical context. It absolutely wasn't just a remainer winge about Johnson.
