" Mad, out of control and inept government. Seem to be following herd immunity strategy on Covid and have “promised” business no more lock downs. NHS on its knees again, but worse because staff burning out and resignations. Massive medical staff shortages, only 2.8 Doctors per 1000 people and 0.4 GP’s per 1000 people. 40,000 nursing vacancies. Food shortages getting worse (Brexit), water companies told by Government to dump sewage into rivers as unable to process it (yes, really!). Mass delivery/freight issues due to HGV driver shortages. Wages are 25 years behind productivity. Labour shortages for min. wage jobs. Further education system corrupted by Universities recruiting unqualified overseas students for expensive courses they haven’t a hope in passing. (This will be a HUGH scandal soon). Teaching staff burning out. 74% people reporting high stress levels and inability to cope. I could go on and on…And income inequality rising, now at highest level in past 10 years. Opposition party is useless. Voters still give government positive ranking in polls.

We’re deep in the shit."
Indeed, this is what 'collapse' looks like. It isn't spectacular but it's what we've got.

Absolutely, threatening to cut off power, a la Putin, is not the act of a friend. The higher echelons of the EU of all people, should know that threatening neighbours rarely ends well. Let's hope they learn from the undemocratic behavioural mistakes.

Mark wrote: 10 Sep 2021, 14:24 I agree with your point that we should rely less on interconnectors
However, as we've discussed before, there are plans for MANY MORE interconnectors over the next few years...
Brexit doesn't seem to have changed anything on that front, unless you can provide evidence ?
More interconnectors the better, they cost a fortune to build, it's usually a joint venture, so if they cut them off, they cut half their nose off ,when they get totalitarian and try to cut it off (sending military police to the Italian phase factory, embarrassing)

So any previous refused permissions off the Anglesey coast were down to HRH, rather than the EU ?
Absolutely, correct. But previous applications were met with the usual civil service inertia of energy is an EU competence and private sector ...blah blah.
Mark wrote: 10 Sep 2021, 14:24 At least you made me laugh quoting BoJo.....
Didn't he say something like we've got huge gusts of wind going around the north - like it was some sort of revelation to him...
There's plenty of gusts of wind going around Downing Street too.... :D
But for all his public school slapstick delivery, he announced an important policy change. The UK was going to exploit its wind resources and instead of making the whole of the EU's energy bills cheaper by putting it into the common energy mix, we are know going to use the excess wind energy to make green hydrogen, intermittent wind generated chemicals. WOW.

Fair enough, when the rest stop using fossil fuels, so will we.

Yes, to a certain extent it is. Take the Soviet collapse, one of the features is dramatic increase in inequality, both the number of suicides and new millionaires rocketed.

Different people voted for Brexit for different reasons , personally my main motivation was always to "bring democracy back home".
Did I ever think that it was magically going to instantly solve all our problems ,No of cause not, but it is a lot easier to hold an MP to account and get them voted out than it is a a member of the faceless European commission.

I would have voted the same way at any point in the last 34 years (how long I have been old enough to vote) and would vote the same way again tomorrow.

You seem to have a lot invested in the whole shtick of always being unquestionably right
irrespective of the facts.

There are probably just as many urls saying otherwise.

Take your pick. Most recently the Afghanistan debacle, "WMD" in Iraq and historically widely inaccurate and arrogant
assessments of various Johnny Foreigner's capabilities from the accuracy of Russian cannon fire at Balaclava
to the fighting abilities of the Turks at Suvla Bay.

I could go on.....

the only person who believed in Iraq's WMD was Tony Blair. It was patently obvious that Bush was simply inventing evidence to give his allies a cover to join the personal vendetta against Hussain, who had tried to assassinate his father.

Looks like the next two interconnectors due in 2021 to Norway and 2023 to Denmark are with countries that are probably a bit less prone to making threats to cut off. I did hear that the Norwegians were called the 'Blue eyed Arabs of the North' by oil industry executives but I won't hold that against them. From what I remember they are still grateful enough for help during WW2 that we still get a free Christmas tree from them every year.

It would be better if the UK invested in energy storage for excess wind power that exporting it cheaply but there as there appears to be no storage planned, except batteries, from better the have and interconnector with reasonable friendly countries than the ones planned with France and Belgium.

The Norwegian interconnector is a 50-50 joint venture between the UK and Norway.

Good summary, BDU.
We should be investing more in energy storage as a higher priority to investing in more interconnectors.
If we MUST have more interconnectors, then better to have them with a spread of countries.

Stumuz sometimes says we need more interconnectors, so that 'they' can cut off half their noses (forgetting we lose half a nose too)
Stumuz sometimes says we will get fewer interconnectors now, as one of the benefits Brexit will bring is energy independence.
This is Brexit in a nutshell - the desire not meeting the reality on the ground with a hint of xenophobia

Whether we like it or not, the modern world is interconnected.
We need to work in partnership with our near neighbours (in or out of the EU), not treat them as enemies.
There are bigger fish out there that could be conceived of as true enemies - Russia, China, most of the Arab world....
