A new treaty being negotiated in secret between the US and the EU has been specifically engineered to give companies what they want — the dismantling of all social, consumer and environmental protection, and compensation for any infringement of their assumed rights.

That's part of the trouble. They 'think' they are 'persons' but of course want the benefits of personhood and none of the responsibilities. This idea of corporations as persons must go.

I'm now seriously thinking of writing to Beeb News and ITN to ask why the heck this kind o'thing never appears on the bloody news.

I mean, Nelson Mandela was, and is, important and yes he was a Great Bloke but they wittered on about him for AN HOUR on News at 10 the other day and it was the same day as the Autumn Statement which got no coverage at all.

Right now, Calgary-based Infinito Gold is suing the Costa Rican government for over $1 billion because Costa Rica rejected Infinito’s plan to build an open-pit gold mine in a pristine tropical forest.

In fact, this "treaty" (i.e., an agreement between states, not nations) is probably the biggest reason why some of the pharming companies 'pulled out' of Europe recently. It was always a temporary hiatus until they worked their magic on politicians. Clever.
