A few commentators have been going potty about potash.
Is it that important a commodity that Chris Martenson (sp?) got all upset about it in his conversation with another YouTube blogger?
From what I can see. Russia and Belarus produce about 40% of worlds supply with Canada, Germany and Israel most of the rest. There are extensive reserves in Canada (one third of all world reserves) and China (doesn't produce any right now - I wonder why) too, even some in Germany and under the North York Moors.
Looks to me that the US gets all of its potash from Canada or own reserves. Brazil and India have to be nice to Russia to get theirs. Europe's was from Belarus and Russia but not now. So maybe Europe has a problem. Australia used to import all of its potash but is developing some reserves at the moment.
Interestingly it (potassium) is also found in seawater at a concentration about one thirtieth that of sodium so could be a source of potash in the energy abundant future.
