Missing power

Is nuclear fission going to make a comeback and plug the gap in our energy needs? Will nuclear fusion ever become energetically viable?

Nuclear now down to 4.3 GW due to various breakdowns and to planned outages.

Now at a near record low of 3.7 GW, largely due to three out of four reactors at the two Heysham power stations tripping due to loss of grid connection. The fourth reactor was already on a planned outage.

Bit surprised and also reassured that the grid coped OK with the loss of nearly 1.5 GW as this represents about 3% of peak demand and about 5% of demand at the time.
