Planned Somerset nuclear plant on hold ? or not ?

Is nuclear fission going to make a comeback and plug the gap in our energy needs? Will nuclear fusion ever become energetically viable?

Now reported to be on target for opening by the end of 2026.
I remain doubtful, but perhaps SLIGHTLY less doubtful than I was a few years ago.
I do not trust the chinese involvement for both quality control reasons and for national security.
The similar build in France remains hugely behind schedule.

On the other hand, the once excessive price of £92.50 a megawatt hour is starting to look a bit more reasonable.

I recorded this video some 10 years ago, it's aged well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4OWvWxZptk

2026 would only be ~5 years late.

That is plus inflation though so it could go a lot higher than that.
