I think a few people have expressed curiosity as to whether the forums get any significant new membership on interesting news, particularly as PO becomes more mainstream. You might be interested in this graph of member count over the last few years. Red is cumulative total, green is new registrations per day.
The count starts from 175, being the number of members when records in the current database began.

It would be interesting to see how many of these come back. The growth is only slightly faster than linear.
From the membership lists:
21 members with 1000+ posts
109 with 100+ posts
245 with 10+ posts
509 with 1+ posts
so nearly half the the members never post...
25% have made a small contribution
10% have made a significant contribution
2% have made a huge contribution

I don't want to depress anyone, but I'm a member of a UK based motorhoming forum. I've just got these figures off the site:
Membership:
New Today: 38
New Yesterday: 36
Total Members: 25,039
Online Stats:
Guest(s): 187
Member(s): 129
Hidden: 7
Total: 316
The top poster has made 9996 posts since Jan 2006, and there are 80 with over 1000 posts.
Membership is free, but you can only make over 5 posts if you pay a ?10 annual subscription.
So big planet saving stuff still has some way to go, although I suppose it makes PowerSwitch a select group .
