There are glimmers or ironic humour such as in this tweet:
Dr Henry Kissinger by submergingmkt
Latest: State Dept.'s new Libya statement: "Gaddafi should cease massacring his people as soon as is practicable."
Almost as plausible as the one last night from someone in Whitehaven saying Gaddaffi had turned up and was asking whether he had room for a tent round the back.[/quote]

Gadaffi is toast. All he has left is thugs and henchmen and mercinaries. The regular army is in open revolt. The only question is how quickly it will end. I don't see him or his sons living through this. No county on earth would give him quarter at the moment.

I would have thought somewhere in South America would have him - that's what's South America's for, isn't it? :)

Well Qaddafi has heavy weapons money and air power, also hes fighting unarmed people .
The lesson to me is the wisdom of the swiss and americans having a armed population, but people with enough Iron in their soul eventually get Iron in their hands.
Taking out Libya's air-power and maybe heavy weapons could help

When was the decision made that the UK should take military action to support the rebellion?

Seems that all oil exports from Libya have now halted. I think that's about 1.25mb/day.

Yeah! We could use Sea Harriers flying from Ark Royal for that, and protect the ship from any Libyan submarine threat with our Nimrods.

And gas too:

http://af.reuters.com/article/libyaNews ... YN20110222
Spot European gas prices surged on Tuesday as a key pipeline supplying Libyan natural gas to Italy was closed and production in oil and gas fields across the crisis-hit country shut down. [...]

The closure of a key supply route spooked a European gas market already jittery about liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers freely passing through the Suez Canal.

"There is a direct risk to Italian supply from Libya which has been realised and the indirect risk of contagion which could be yet be realised with fears over the Suez Canal," Nick Campbell, an energy analyst at consultancy Inenco said.

"But perhaps more interesting would be unrest developing in Algeria due to its importance to Spain."

Gadaffi is a raving lunatic, unlike Mubarak. He makes Saddam Hussein look sane.
