Thankfully I have a few skills..... but for now they are uneconomic. I earn more teaching (& can slip certain messages into science lessons... ) than I could doing stuff with my hands. What I earn I hope to reinvest back into solar panels etc..... Really until oil prices rise alternatives...

Deglobalisation..... back pedal! back pedal!

All the talk has been about globalisation, global markets etc.etc. I can't help thinking it is all going in totally the wrong direction. We need to undo all the outsourcing etc of the last 20+ years and start to reverse the process. We need to unglobalise or deglobalise or what ever the word should ...

The more I find out about peak and its effects the less I know and the more complex and difficult to predict short term scenarios become!!! Yes! I was discussing this with my sister today and all in all there are SO many factors that could have an effect that it seems to be beyond anyone's predicti...

Well we hope to be there Sat morning. Apparently if you arrive by bike you get in free! So I'm hoping our tandem will be back on the road before then (power assisted pedalling you understand .... ie he is fitter than me!) Otherwise we'll have to leave in very good time for me to get there entirely u...

Sounds a good idea. Has anyone done this on a local level yet? How did you do it? What sort of format would be best I wonder. I'm thinking of getting that DVD 'The End of Surburbia'. Haven't watched it myself yet... wondering if I really want to or not! It does seem to me that the ordinary person ca...

Just wondering what acreage would be needed to keep the growth/harvest cycle going for one household? I noticed in France that pollarding of hedgerow trees is common & that the tops grow back quite quickly - we did a test pollarding on a big ash at home & in 1 season there is already quite a...

People pay more attention to things that they work out for themselves. So maybe a strategy would centre around provoking their curiosity? A quick release of enlightenment into their brainpan and then make your excuses. Let them ponder awhile... Yup.. basically this has been my strategy. Makes sense...

Hello - Getting the message out generally & in N.Ireland

Hello fellow realists! I have recently read a couple of books, "Power Down" etc and am convinced that Peak Oil is either imminent or past. As a science teacher my students have often groaned at my comments regarding the oil induced population explosion.... but until now the doom & gloo...
