Re: Big thanks to James B, our wonderful tech guru

No, looks like the old account isn't marked as an admin. I'll work on sorting out your "real" account though. I think this means you've just volunteered it as a guinea-pig in my "copy the old password hashes" fix ... :)

Re: Outage and upgrade

OK, I think I might have a solution to the passwords problem - creating another copy of the forum and upgrading that, gives more sensible-looking hashes that I could copy back into the new database. Can I have some volunteers to test this? Worst case, probably, is that you might have to do a passwor...

Re: Outage and upgrade

OK it looks like browser password memory or the URL change is not the problem. The upgrade re-hashed the existing password hashes "for More Security" (they used MD5) and what's supposed to happen is that as people log in and their password gets validated it against the double-hashed passwo...

Re: Big thanks to James B, our wonderful tech guru

Has anyone had problems logging in with their existing password, or had to do a password reset?

Please check the thread in Site News.

Re: Outage and upgrade

Has anyone had problems logging in with their existing password, or had to do a password reset? I've had a couple of emails so far from members with such issues, but I see postings from others, so it's not clear where the problem lies. As the forum has moved to a new URL, you may find that your brow...

Outage and upgrade

Yes, the forum upgrade actually happened in the end. We had some trouble over the last week with every page showing an HTTP 500 error, which turned out to be down to a change of the PHP software default on the hosting provider. We could have forced it back to an old enough version to support our emb...

new version of the site. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference at the moment. This isn't the new version of the site. I've set that up on a different URL, which I don't want to just post here - but it's in the "Testing" area. Anyone volunteering to have a go with it who doesn't hav...

I'll leave that one to James H - I personally don't incur direct financial costs apart from the domain registration which is about £12 a year - the hosting service will I'm sure be more significant. The phpbb forum software is freeware.

Thanks, Adam, Merging topics does seem to be supported in phpBB3: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2133836 There's a selection of anti-spam extensions which I'll be looking at: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extensions/anti-spam-41 Section for long-term members should be possible,...

Forum upgrade

I'm having another stab at upgrading the rather ancient software of this forum to the latest version. Could i maybe get a few members to test it out? I'd be particularly interested in knowing whether there are any features you currently rely on that don't work as expected - e.g. moderation. (We have...

Outage last weekend - nameserver change

Hi all, We had an outage at the weekend due to outdated nameserver details in the domain registration. Changes at the hosting provider weren't communicated to us, and the NS hosts in the registration stopped returning results for the domain. One support ticket later and they're updated, and it took ...
