Any other weird stories while you are in the mood Vortex?
Oh stuff it.

I knew I abandoned this site for several months for a reason.

Thanks for for reminding me to spend my time doing something more worthwhile.

It seems that a 'certain local community' has been overdoing the robbbing on their own doorstep. The police then started a major operation to contain the problem : this whole area is now flooded 24/7 with police in unmarked cars. This however has been taken as a challenge by the 'certain local commu...

I don't have a lot of faith today's student population to drive change or significantly influence policy. In my day we had the Angry Brigade cooking up bombs in their Essex University hall of residence. The police hardly ever went on some campuses. Certainly the "Do you have a TV license?"...

Update:

Adjacent farmer had his tractor damaged and its battery stolen last night.

Also a known tea-leaf was spotted lurking in his 4x4 this morning ... but drove away after 10 minutes.

Sooo ... what will we find (or not find) in our barn tomorrow morning :?

'3' USB 3g stick oddity

I bought a 3G USB modem quite a while back.

I have hardly used it, but when I do I can still access the web ... although all my credits show ZERO on the support web page.

What's happening here?

Rather than cowering under a table, which seems to be your proposal. Rather than cowering under a table, which seems to be your proposal. I'm not sure why I should be 'cowering'. I have no strong position on this, although I tend towards thinking that the information release was handled poorly. How...

Haven't any of you worked inside government or inside a large corporation? Or for the military? Or perhaps been close friends with someone who has? Surely you must see that 'the system' is going to swing into action to deal with this new threat? Trendy-lefty wishful thinking won't prevent what's to ...

Weird ladder mystery!

This morning we found a large ladder, covered with frost, in the centre of our land. What's all that about? A stolen & dumped ladder? A dumped burglar's tool? Mrs Vortex thinks however that yesterday we must have disturbed a mistletoe thief. (Misteltoe in the fields somehow seems to disappear ar...

No. Shoppers will go elsewhere, or they'll do the right thing and not buy that particular piece of tat. In the end, the retailers will lose out, not the customer. And if retailers lose business, who're they gonna blame (by way of the courts)? Visa, PayPal, & Mastercard. Almost everyone pays by ...

You have not actually made any concrete predictions as far as I can tell. You made a vague statement about 'Internet is about to be turned into a corporate and/or state controlled zone' without any comment on the mechanisms that could be used to do that. Yes I have. Legal & technical mechanisms...

They are playing away from home, and will lose. Think of it as being a bit like the Vietnam war: the big boys didn't do so well in the jungle against an enemy which knows that jungle.
Hmm ...so they invented Agent Orange to remove the jungle ...
