Re: Looks like a potentially severe drought coming
Back on topic, here in rainy Ireland we have a had a damp day today, with another forecast for tomorrow. You can work outside and not get wet (maybe a little cold), that's the extent of it. In other words, if you ignore the little bit of damp drizzle we had today, we've had no rain from 29th March t...

Re: Greer absolutely nails it....
Re: renting for a while. We have come up with a better idea. I have spoken to some agents down there, and it seems that demand for rental properties massively outstrips supply. I think what we're going to do is buy a terraced house in Pembroke Dock. My mother is not going to be with us for very muc...

Re: Greer absolutely nails it....
Cat's point of renting - for a year, or even longer - whilst scouting for a location is worth repeating. There's prevailing weather and shelter from it, general orientation of land and buildings, drainage, access to facilities, security, soil type amongst other things. Not least, you can spend time...

Re: Looking for a cheap, DIY Solar Heat for my workshop
Googling some keywords gave a lot of solar air heaters based on a box with glass front and cans painted black to absorb the heat. What looks like a computer fan then forces the air down a tumble dryer style pipe to the desired place. The tricky bit looks like gluing all the cans together. Treehugge...

Re: Looking for a cheap, DIY Solar Heat for my workshop
Cat, a guy I know called Peter Crayfourd in Bolton might offer ideas, advice and parts. His website is https://solarproject.co.uk/ He's helped me out on many occasions in sorting out my SolarTwin DHW system. His business is his hobby; speak to him, he's just really happy to help people create solar ...

Re: Growing limited crops on poor soil.
Humanure is not applied to the fields as it is considered a health risk if applied to root crops. Not if it's thermophilically composted and harvested after two years. We're still alive after 13 years using it in beds etc. What comes out of the humanure compost bins is like soil and very safe. Flus...

Re: Growing limited crops on poor soil.
A few things to add to possible options:
1) It might be worth looking at getting some trailer loads of seaweed to dig in.
2) Another idea is to plant a green manure crop then plough it in.
3) Do they humanure? They should.
4) Leaves make the finest soil when composted. Never let 'em blow away.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=au6FKi8aAsA A number of studies now confirming vit.d effectiveness. Fascinating, thanks. I had vitamin D levels so low they didn't register - plus was suffering from frequent colds - in 2016, following an almost totally cloudy summer in 2015. Taking a supplement ever s...

Re: Assange Watch
2), Assuming it does fail, it remains to be seen how long Assange lives following release. Are you asking that because he appears so psychologically and physically broken, or because you think the US will try to assassinate him? The US might not but one of their lickspittles may try. I rather hope ...
