Re: New coronavirus in/from China

It's worth remembering that it is Johnson's failure, his government's failure that has lead to the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of additional cases, which facilitate these mutations. This isn't black swan, act of God stuff, it's directly cased by prior failures. Also, the lockdown-sceptics appr...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I do not think we will ever fully separate the cause and effect of the deaths from / with covid. We know that the lockdowns have modified the normal death figures, fewer influenza and road accident deaths, probably more deaths from suicide, heart disease and cancer, as other services were either sh...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I'm glad to see you've welcomed the reality of actuarial tables into your life, LJ. :) While you're in the business of "pleading guilty to hyperbole" are you now able to row back in your earlier claim that 2020 was "just an average year"? :D Your substantive point above is that t...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

... and I would lay even more confident bets bets that people whose average age is 82.4 have got a significantly higher than 50% chance of dying of anything within any 12 month period. In the US (first table I found, UK will be a little longer), the life expectancy at 82 is +7.32 years male and +8....

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I'll spell this out since you clearly lack the capacity to work it out for yourself. The chance of someone who is, say, 20 years old making it through the next 7 years is not the same as the chance of someone who is, say, 80 making it through the next 7 years. Obviously, a 20 year old has an expect...

That, by the way, is form the UK governments on page.

Even they, laughably, call a less than 1 in 2 chance of attaining a given age a "life expectancy"
Yes - That chart illustrates just what I'm saying. Thanks.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

A few days ago you (Little John) were claiming 2020 was "just an average year". I went to some lengths to explain why this was not the case, in fact it was an exceptional year, and suggested that by claiming that 2020 was just an average year you have either been misled, lied to. Or you ar...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

And it's the abject failure of Brazil that gave the virus the huge number of hosts, facilitating this mutation. Same with the UK.

There are consequences upon consequences for failing to control early spread.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

I'm not sure I need to read 35 studies, so I just looked at the first one on the list, from 2015, and read their later additions re Covid19. I just read the last on on LJ's list. It makes ZERO mention of masks or any form of face covering. It is a review paper from 2011 looking at many studies, man...

Re: New coronavirus in/from China

So again just an average year. I simply don't understand how you can write that with a straight face, maybe you're just trolling for kicks? Just an average year. Firstly, the numbers in your chart show 2020 as the highest proportion of the population died in 20 years, that's almost a generation. Wo...
